{"id":331632,"date":"2025-12-07T00:10:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T00:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/331632\/"},"modified":"2025-12-07T00:10:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T00:10:13","slug":"recently-retired-alessandro-de-marchi-moves-to-the-other-side-as-sports-director-with-jayco-alula-after-15-years-in-the-pro-peloton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/331632\/","title":{"rendered":"Recently retired Alessandro De Marchi moves to the &#8216;other side&#8217; as sports director with Jayco-AlUla after 15 years in the pro peloton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"8cf84285-319d-4d9a-93c4-834af9a4f1c9\">Recently retired Italian veteran <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/alessandro-de-marchi\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/alessandro-de-marchi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alessandro De Marchi <\/a>will continue his career in the sport, moving into a sports director role at Jayco-AlUla, where he has spent his final three seasons as a rider during his professional racing career.<\/p>\n<p>After <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/change-is-not-suffered-it-is-desired-alessandro-de-marchi-to-retire-at-end-of-season-after-15-year-pro-career\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/change-is-not-suffered-it-is-desired-alessandro-de-marchi-to-retire-at-end-of-season-after-15-year-pro-career\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announcing his retirement during the spring<\/a>, the Italian climbing all-rounder will begin his new job with the Australian outfit at the start of 2026.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"8cf84285-319d-4d9a-93c4-834af9a4f1c9-2\">\u201cI\u2019m happy to finally take this step, and above all, I\u2019m happy because I can begin this new journey in an organization I know, one that recognizes me, and one that has always valued me for who I am,\u201d De Marchi said in a team press release.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I\u2019ll be starting from scratch, I\u2019ll begin to reconstruct myself in this new role, which I\u2019d like to interpret a bit like I did as a rider: with passion and determination for a job I love. I\u2019m also very intrigued to see and work on the process from a new perspective; it\u2019s stimulating to think about how I can contribute now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though his main role was as a domestique, De Marchi managed seven wins from a career that started in 2010, when he joined Androni-Giocattoli-Serramenti. Riding for Cannondale, BMC Racing, CCC Team and Israel-Premier Tech before his move to Jayco, De Marchi won three stages of the Vuelta, a stage of the Crit\u00e9rium du Dauphin\u00e9, Tre Valli Varesine and the Giro dell\u2019Emilia. His most recent success came in 2024, with a solo success at stage 2 of the Tour of the Alps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is fantastic to have Alessandro staying with Team Jayco AlUla for the next phase of his cycling career,\u201d Jayco-AlUla\u2019s Sporting Manager, Gene Bates, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring his time in the peloton, Alessandro developed a reputation as an intelligent rider, and he is well respected within the bunch. It is a push that comes from within, that wants to be recognised, and above all to be listened to.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a phrase I came across in a book, and by no coincidence, it sums up perfectly the process that I have been going through these last months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">However, he had been less poetic in an interview a few weeks before that, heralding his retirement and criticising increased aggression in the bunch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t miss much about the peloton I\u2019ve been hanging out with lately. It has changed too much, and there are many dynamics that I no longer like. There is too much aggression,\u201d he said before suggesting his new career path.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, I\u2019m thinking about what to do once I get off my bike, and the main idea is to stay in cycling.
