Police have provided an update on investigations how a woman died before being found in a car several days later<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A critical incident investigation was launched about 4.30pm on Friday after the 48-year-old\u2019s body was discovered inside a blue Toyota Yaris parked outside the Lake Illawarra Police Station, on NSW\u2019s<\/a> South Coast.<\/p>\n

Paramedics were called to the scene but she was determined to have been in an advanced state of decomposition, having spent days in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Initial investigations have revealed the woman had spoken to officers and spent time in the foyer before returning to the car, Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does appear the woman had been living inside that vehicle,\u201d Cassar said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe weather has been hot, the vehicle was locked, there would have been exceptional temperatures inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very, very sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added police first noticed the car had not been moved for several days but found it hard to see inside as it had a very dark tint and was dirty inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you looked through the front of the car, you wouldn\u2019t have noticed it,\u201d Cassar said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t obvious there was a body in there until (an officer) had to break the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when they were able to discover that in the back seat there was a body.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police are still working to formally identify the woman while investigations into her death, including if she approached police for help or to file a report<\/a>, remain ongoing.<\/p>\n

The Professional Standards Command and Law Enforcement Conduct Commission and Law Enforcement Conduct Commission will oversee the investigations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A report will be prepared for the coroner.<\/p>\n
