As we enter the final weeks of the NFL season, it’s becoming do-or-die for the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>. After a loss to the Dallas Cowboys<\/a> on Thanksgiving, Kansas City sits at 6-6 and two games outside of the AFC playoff picture.<\/p>\n The Chiefs have already (almost) surrendered the AFC West to the Denver Broncos<\/a>, ending a nine-year reign where the division title stayed in Kansas City. Though, not many expected the Chiefs to be outside of the playoff picture fully this late in the season; Kansas City has made the NFL postseason every season since 2014.<\/p>\n STREAM: Watch\u00a0Chiefs vs.\u00a0Texans live with Fubo (free trial for new users)<\/a><\/p>\n If the Chiefs want to salvage their playoff aspirations, it starts on “Sunday Night Football” against the surging Houston Texans<\/a>. Houston\u00a0\u2014 who sits at eighth in the AFC with a 7-5 record\u00a0\u2014 has rattled off four straight wins, the last two being marquee ones; it first suffocated Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills<\/a>, followed up by defeating the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts<\/a> on the road.<\/p>\n For star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Texans defense presents one of his toughest challenges. Houston leads the NFL with the No. 1 scoring defense (allowing 16.5 points per game) while also leading league in yards allowed per game. Quarterbacks the defense have given struggles to include Allen, Daniel Jones, and Trevor Lawrence<\/p>\n With C.J. Stroud back and healthy, the rematch of the 2024 AFC Divisional Round\u00a0\u2014 which the Chiefs won 23-14\u00a0\u2014 has plenty of playoff implications on the line for two teams looking to get in. This time, he makes a critical play on 3rd & 16; with Chris Jones around his legs, Stroud hits Collins downfield for 18 yards.<\/p>\n Houston has a new set of downs.<\/p>\n 9:39 p.m.:\u00a0Things are getting worse and worse for the Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n After Mahomes goes down on 3rd & 5, Harrison Butker comes out to hit a relatively-easy field goal. Though, the kicker doinks it off the post, and the Chiefs remain scoreless.<\/p>\n Off the upright to keep the score 10-0<\/p>\n HOUvsKC on NBC \u2014 NFL (@NFL) December 8, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n With 1:00 remaining, Houston has a chance to add onto the lead.<\/p>\n 9:32 p.m.:\u00a0Mahomes has arguably his biggest throw of the day.<\/p>\n He hits Worthy downfield for 22 yards and Kansas City is down to the Houston 37.<\/p>\n 9:29 p.m.:\u00a0The Chiefs get a first down, with Mahomes finding Tyquan Thornton for 12 yards, and they’re out from inside the 10.<\/p>\n 9:24 p.m.:\u00a0Houston goes three-and-out and comes up empty after the turnover.<\/p>\n Though, after a great Townsend punt, the Chiefs will start their drive at the 3.<\/p>\n 9:20 p.m.:\u00a0The Texans defense shows why it is the best in the league up to this point, and it’s one of the stars, Jalen Pitre.<\/p>\n Mahomes throws in the middle of the field, and Pitre tips it up into the air, and is able to find it and lay out for the interception.<\/p>\n Jalen Pitre tipped it to himself!<\/p>\n HOUvsKC on NBC \u2014 NFL (@NFL) December 8, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n It’s the first turnover of the game, and Kansas City remains scoreless.<\/p>\n Texans 10, Chiefs 0<\/p>\n 9:14 p.m.:\u00a0Stroud and the Houston Texans lead 10-0 at Arrowhead Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n On 3rd & goal, Stroud finds a wide open Woody Marks, and the rookie is able to stroll into the end zone with nobody around him. Though it comes up incomplete, there’s a controversial defensive holding on Kansas City.<\/p>\n The Texans move the chains.<\/p>\n End of the first quarter: Texans 3, Chiefs 0<\/p>\n 9:01 p.m.:\u00a0The Chiefs are across midfield after a Kareem Hunt run.<\/p>\n But, the next play, Mahomes gets sacked for the second time tonight, going down for nine yards. The Chiefs faced a 3rd & 17, and Rice gets a few yards but not close to the sticks.<\/p>\n Kansas City punts for the third straight time to open the game.<\/p>\n Texans 3, Chiefs 0<\/p>\n 8:53 p.m. FIELD GOAL: After a sequence where replay assist incorrectly ruled a play a first down, Houston faced a 4th & 1, but an offsides penalty made it 4th & 6.<\/p>\n Kaimi Fairbarn comes on to hit a field goal, and Houston is the first team on the board.<\/p>\n 8:43 p.m.:\u00a0Nico Collins has the first huge play of the game. It’s a 10-yard loss, and for the third straight drive to open the game, we have a punt.<\/p>\n 8:38 p.m.:\u00a0Kansas City has a first down on the first play, with Xavier Worthy taking a catch 10 yards.<\/p>\n The next play, Mahomes gets his other star receiver, Rashee Rice.<\/p>\n 8:34 p.m.:\u00a0On 3rd & 8, Stroud tries finding Collins but it comes up incomplete.<\/p>\n Tommy Townsend, the former Chief, comes on to punt for Houston. Mahomes and co. will start at the 25.<\/p>\n 8:29 p.m.:\u00a0Houston has the first first down of the night, with the rookie back Woody Marks taking it up the middle for two yards.<\/p>\n 8:27 p.m.:\u00a0Kansas City goes three-and-out on the first drive. Mahomes had a receiver, though it was dropped.<\/p>\n After the punt, C.J.
