Police have laid charges against a teenager allegedly involved in a fatal stabbing in Melbourne’s north on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The incident resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man, who was found with stab wounds at the intersection of Maribyrnong and Union roads in Ascot Vale before being rushed to hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n
Officers found and arrested 18-year-old Alambs Mohmmed several streets away about 15 minutes later.<\/p>\n
Mr Mohmmed was charged with intentionally causing injury, affray, escaping custody and theft.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old \u2014 who police say has no fixed address \u2014 faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon, where he was remanded with no bail application made.<\/p>\n
A charge sheet released by the court after the hearing alleged Mr Mohmmed escaped from police custody and stole about $30 worth of alcohol from an Ascot Vale bottle shop at some point on Sunday.<\/p>\n
He will return to court in about a week-and-a-half.<\/p>\n
Police are still searching for a second male, aged 16, who allegedly fled the scene of the stabbing on foot and is known to police.<\/p>\n
“I am very confident that person will be apprehended sooner rather than later,” deputy police commissioner Bob Hill told reporters on Monday.<\/p>\n
