<\/a><\/p>\nMelbourne Demons<\/a> defender Jake Bowey<\/a> has suffered an unfortunate long-term foot injury in pre-season that is set to see him sidelined for approximately six months.<\/p>\n The club confirmed on Monday that Bowey suffered a Lisfranc injury on his left foot, which will require the defender to undergo surgery.<\/p>\n Melbourne’s General Manager of AFL<\/a> Football Performance Alan Richardson<\/a> spoke on the terrible news in a club statement.<\/p>\n “Jake will have surgery in the coming days to repair the Lisfranc injury,” he said.<\/p>\n “We will ensure Jake receives all the support he requires throughout his recovery period.”<\/p>\n The injury could mean Bowey isn’t available for the first third of the season, and the decision to undergo surgery was made after consulting with specialists over recent days.<\/p>\n It’s disappointing news for the young gun after a career-best year in 2025. The 23-year-old averaged 22 disposals, five intercepts and five marks. His improved play saw him finish fourth in the Demons’ best and fairest for 2025.<\/p>\n The Demons will now have to find someone to replace Bowey’s run and distribution off the half-backline. Recruit Changkuoth Jiath<\/a> could relish in that role for Steven King<\/a> to begin 2026.<\/p>\n
