{"id":334357,"date":"2025-12-08T06:28:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T06:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/334357\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T06:28:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T06:28:11","slug":"new-nets-help-boost-junior-and-female-cricket-in-glenorchy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/334357\/","title":{"rendered":"New nets help boost Junior and Female Cricket in Glenorchy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund (ACIF) and the Glenorchy City Council, Glenorchy Cricket Club has received some much-needed upgrades to their nets at KGV Oval.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the ACIF, Cricket Tasmania and Cricket Australia partner with clubs, associations, schools, and councils, offering the opportunity to apply for funding for cricket facility projects.<\/p>\n<p>Glenorchy Cricket Club has used an ACIF grant to expand the size and capacity of the training nets creating a multi-purpose outdoor training area with retractable cricket nets.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to these upgrades through the ACIF, the nets did not meet the needs of the junior program at Glenorchy Cricket Club, particularly for its growing junior and female programs.<\/p>\n<p>An additional three nets were added to help support the growth of the game at Glenorchy and cricket in the northern suburbs, via a $40,000 grant from the ACIF, with strong support from the Glenorchy City Council, which helped deliver the project.<\/p>\n<p>Glenorchy Cricket Club President Brett Geeves is pleased to have seen the ACIF support the growth of the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upgrade of our old, unused turf nets into a four-lane synthetic facility has provided a safe space for youngsters in our expanding junior cricket programs to learn and experience cricket in what feels like a high-performance environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has also allowed our broader club greater connectivity, with CTPL, HJL, and Women\u2019s teams now able to train at the same time, which has always been problematic,\u201d stated Geeves.<\/p>\n<p>Glenorchy City Council Mayor Sue Hickey is proud to have supported this project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGlenorchy City Council is proud to have supported and delivered the upgrade of the cricket facilities at KGV Oval.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvesting in quality sporting infrastructure is vital to encouraging participation across all ages and abilities, and this project will provide lasting benefits for our community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to seeing local players, from juniors through to senior teams, make the most of this fantastic upgraded facility,\u201d said Hickey.<\/p>\n<p>The Glenorchy City Council received a separate ACIF grant in 2024-25 to replace and expand outdated training facilities at Abbotsfield Park.
