{"id":334914,"date":"2025-12-08T12:48:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T12:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/334914\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T12:48:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T12:48:08","slug":"patrick-roy-sticks-up-for-max-shabanov-as-islanders-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/334914\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrick Roy sticks up for Max Shabanov as Islanders loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUNRISE, Fla. \u2014 Max Shabanov has played well since returning from injury, but he\u2019d probably like to burn the tape of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/07\/sports\/islanders-three-game-winning-streak-snapped-in-loss-to-panthers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday\u2019s 4-1 Islanders loss to the Panthers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rookie Russian winger had a shot blocked and committed two turnovers on the same second-period shift, the second of which led to Carter Verhaeghe\u2019s goal that made it 2-0 Panthers.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Patrick Roy was forgiving afterward, calling it a learning moment, though he did drop Shabanov to the third line for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s learning very fast and very well,\u201d Roy said. \u201cHe had some great flashes in the game. He\u2019s gonna continue to learn. That\u2019s the beauty of our game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roy explained the change of lines by saying the Islanders just wanted to try something different on an afternoon when their offense didn\u2019t have much going.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a challenging schedule. And back-to-back games within 24 hours, sometimes it\u2019s good to try different things,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s all we wanted to do. Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Roy had praise for Max Tsyplakov pregame, a notable development as Tsyplakov has struggled to stay in the coach\u2019s good graces this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like last game [Saturday against Tampa], I liked how he managed the puck,\u201d Roy said. \u201cI thought he managed it really well.
