{"id":335835,"date":"2025-12-08T22:33:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T22:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/335835\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T22:33:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T22:33:09","slug":"dominican-republic-to-host-tigers-ahead-of-world-baseball-classic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/335835\/","title":{"rendered":"Dominican Republic to host Tigers ahead of World Baseball Classic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ORLANDO, Fla. &#8212; The Dominican Republic will host the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/det\/detroit-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Tigers<\/a> for a pair of exhibition games on March 3 and 4 ahead of the World Baseball Classic.<\/p>\n<p>The games will be played at Santo Domingo&#8217;s Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal, baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday. They are dedicated to the memory of the victims of the April 8 roof collapse at Santo Domingo&#8217;s Jet Set nightclub.<\/p>\n<p>Former big league pitcher Octavio Dotel and the sister of former big leaguer Nelson Cruz were among the more than 200 people who died.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz, the Dominican Republic&#8217;s general manager, and Albert Pujols, the team&#8217;s manager, attended a news conference with Manfred to make the announcement at the winter meetings.
