The Warriors on Monday waived second-round pick Alex Toohey, an injury-related move that briefly opened up a two-way spot on their roster. <\/p>\n

In a corresponding move, the Warriors replaced Toohey with Malevy Leons, a 6-foot-9 forward who has been in the Oklahoma City Thunder\u2019s system since 2024. Leons will wear No. 33. <\/p>\n

The Warriors drafted Toohey out of Australia with the 52nd overall pick. He has popped up on injury reports with a left knee injury for much of the season. Toohey appeared in two games for the G League Santa Cruz Warriors and none at the NBA level. <\/p>\n

Leons, 26, grew up in the Netherlands before moving to the U.S. in 2020. He went to junior college in Missouri, then transferred to Bradley, a Missouri Valley Conference school. <\/p>\n

Leons played three seasons for Bradley and was named conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and 2024. He joined the Thunder as an undrafted rookie. <\/p>\n

The Thunder have an impressive player development track record. This season, Leons is averaging 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game with the OKC Blue. He\u2019s shooting 50.8% from the field and 43.8% from deep while logging 2.9 stocks (steals plus blocks) per game. <\/p>\n

The Warriors started this year with Pat Spencer, Jackson Rowe, and Toohey as their three two-way players. They waived Rowe last week to make room for sharp-shooting point guard LJ Cryer, who has been lighting it up in Santa Cruz. Now, the other spot is shuffling.<\/p>\n

Spencer, meanwhile, has been active for all of the Warriors\u2019 24 games. He has emerged<\/a> as a legitimate pick-and-roll threat, starting the previous two games. In his last eight games, Spencer averaged 10.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds. He had 39 assists and just 10 turnovers in that stretch.<\/p>\n

Two-way players are eligible to be active for 50 NBA games. They otherwise play at the G League level or stick around with the NBA team for practices.<\/p>\n

Golden State\u2019s other second-round draft pick, Will Richard, stepped into the league as a cog in Steve Kerr\u2019s rotation. Chosen four picks after Toohey with the No. 56 overall selection in the NBA Draft, Richard has appeared in 23 games and started 12 for Golden State. <\/p>\n
