<\/p>\nJason Bateman gave a rare update on the status of his relationship with his sister, Justine Bateman, 59.<\/p>\n
\u201c[We] don\u2019t see each other a ton\u201d these days, he told Esquire in a profile published Monday.<\/p>\n

The \u201cArrested Development\u201d actor 56, has been married to Amanda Anka since 2001, and the couple share daughters Maple, 13, and Francesca, 19.<\/p>\n
He explained that his relationship with his sister \u201cisn\u2019t the typical \u2018We see each other every Thanksgiving or every Christmas and our kids want to be together.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Justine is also an actress, best known for \u201cDesperate Housewives\u201d and \u201cCalifornication.\u201d She also has two kids with husband Mark Fluent.<\/p>\n
Both siblings started as child actors, with Justine beginning her career on \u201cFamily Ties\u201d and Jason appearing in \u201cLittle House on the Prairie\u201d as a child.<\/p>\n
In a 2017 interview with People, Justine said being famous at an early age was difficult.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were at the level of fame where you just can\u2019t go anywhere,\u201d she noted. \u201cYou just try to keep your head above water \u2026 I found it frustrating having no control over what people thought of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI\u2019m not saying I\u2019m ungrateful for fame at all. I\u2019m just saying it\u2019s a crazy emotional experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jason doesn\u2019t talk about his family much, in contrast to how he talks about longtime pal Jennifer Aniston, 56.<\/p>\n
In August, he told Vanity Fair that the \u201cFriends\u201d actress is \u201cthe first one to call or text about big dates in the girls\u2019 lives. She has questions about boyfriends.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked if Aniston is like an aunt to his kids, he said, \u201cAunts you might not see all the time. She\u2019s almost closer to a co-mom with Amanda. She\u2019s been a part of their lives from the moment they were born.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jason told Esquire that he and Justine, who is often vocal about politics and has slammed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, do still keep in touch.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur conversations are the rich conversations you would have with an adult friend, not the kind of petulant back-and-forth you might have with your adult sibling.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cBlack Rabbit\u201d actor added, \u201cWe hang out, and we\u2019re nice to each other because we respect one another as individuals regardless of the blood thing. I\u2019m seeing her for lunch next week.\u201d<\/p>\n
During a 2015 interview on the \u201cWTF With Marc Maron\u201d podcast, Jason said that he doesn\u2019t believe family relationships are automatically set in stone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, let\u2019s earn the relationship that adults should or could have,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re not handcuffed because of the blood. You\u2019ve gotta earn it.\u201d<\/p>\n
