{"id":336899,"date":"2025-12-09T10:03:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T10:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/336899\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T10:03:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T10:03:12","slug":"team-of-4-dives-into-the-atlantic-to-give-injured-rugby-teen-a-second-chance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/336899\/","title":{"rendered":"Team of 4 Dives into the Atlantic to Give Injured Rugby Teen a Second Chance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tFour brave and incredibly compassionate hearts: Shone\u00e9, Katherine, Eva and Georgina, will swim from Fish Hoek to Hout Bay to support a 13-year-old rugby player whose life was irrevocably changed by a catastrophic on-field injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cape Town, South Africa (09 December 2025) \u2013 Four incredible swimmers will ONCE AGAIN take on an immense physical and mental challenge for Rugby\u2019s Caring Hands.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2026, Shone\u00e9 Cornelissen, Katherine Persson, Eva Dirksen and Georgina Smith will brave a gruelling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PlayersFund\/posts\/pfbid02SnmJWMet5SqifGobj2Y8npDtCGHRPeoAAuDi2p4DqgVRKHaU1iVq39wG7LCWnbiKl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">72-kilometre relay swim<\/a> across the unforgiving currents and frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean, starting in Fish Hoek and finishing in Hout Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Their epic display of endurance and heart is to raise funds for <a href=\"https:\/\/playersfund.org.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players\u2019 Fund<\/a>\u2018s latest\u00a0and\u00a0youngest\u00a0recipient,\u00a0Leandro Jantjies.<\/p>\n<p>Leandro is\u00a0a 13-year-old\u00a0talented rugby player whose life was irrevocably changed\u00a0by a catastrophic on-field injury.\u00a0He\u2019s now a recipient of the Players\u2019 Fund for life\u00a0\u2013 a lifeline organisation known as\u00a0Rugby\u2019s Caring Hands.<\/p>\n<p>The funds raised through this swim will go directly to the Players\u2019 Fund to help them continue their work of\u00a0providing lifelong physical, emotional, and financial support\u00a0to Leandro and the other catastrophically injured rugby players across South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>This support covers critical needs, like but not limited or defined to:<\/p>\n<p>Mobility equipment (eg: specialised wheelchairs and other assistive devices)<br \/>\nHome\/Bathroom modifications to ensure accessibility and independence<br \/>\nSpecialised medical care and rehabilitation<br \/>\nCounselling and psychosocial support<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodthingsguy.com\/lifestyle\/swimmers-make-waves-4-wheelchairs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Last year<\/a>, Shone\u00e9, Katherine, Eva and Georgina raised a total of R159,948 for former rugby players Mandla Nyaniso and Marius \u201cMJ\u201d Van Staden.
