Once again, this is about longevity, and tour and recreational usage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we do &#8216;What\u2019s In The Bags&#8217; with players, it\u2019s always Dynamic Gold True Temper Tour Issue X100 shafts in the irons down to X400 in the wedges,\u201d says Joe.<\/p>\n<p>There are, of course, exceptions, and as Joe points out, the likes of KBS and Nippon have a good presence on tour in irons; however, Dynamic Gold has been dominating its field for about 45 years.<\/p>\n<p>Now, how many golfers know this? True Temper used to be called The American Fork &amp; Hoe Co (they were tool makers).<\/p>\n<p>The fundamental design of this shaft can be traced back to the 1940s, when the company became True Temper, although the shaft didn\u2019t become known by the name Dynamic Gold until 1980.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the best golfers in the modern era, Woods and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/tag\/scottie-scheffler\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/tag\/scottie-scheffler\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scottie Scheffler<\/a>, are on a very long list of players to use True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts. Can we really call lead tape a component?<\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter &#8211; this is Joe&#8217;s list. Anyway, he actually makes a very strong case for lead tape&#8217;s inclusion.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/features\/what-is-lead-tape-and-why-do-golfers-use-it\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/features\/what-is-lead-tape-and-why-do-golfers-use-it\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why do golfers use lead tape<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>For many decades, lead tape has been used by golfers to dial in weight. \u201cThe sign of a player,\u201d says Joe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you turn up for a match and they\u2019ve got lead tape all over their bats, you\u2019re thinking, \u2018Crikey, he\u2019s thought about this.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one of the few components that can turn a dud into a diamond. It\u2019s phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Golfers also use lead weight to influence CG and, therefore, influence ball flight, helping players to create more fade\/draw bias.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can even cover up a logo if you want to get that minimalist look,\u201d adds Joe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are companies now &#8211; and I&#8217;m not sure how I feel about this &#8211; branding lead tape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can get strips of Titleist lead tape. I guess they didn\u2019t want their logo covered up! It\u2019s quite smart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-f2474116-c97c-4db5-82d4-68befa13ca2c\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>4. Fujikura Ventus Shafts<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/vcQnpxwfGburYiCwzrw53A.png\" alt=\"Fujikura VENTUS Driver Shafts\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/vcQnpxwfGburYiCwzrw53A.png\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/vcQnpxwfGburYiCwzrw53A.png\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Fujikura)<\/p>\n<p id=\"ace0e2b4-581d-47db-a7ce-ef5ac87c8123\">The <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/reviews\/fujikura-ventus-velocore-shafts-review-every-profile-tested\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/reviews\/fujikura-ventus-velocore-shafts-review-every-profile-tested\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fujikura Ventus shafts<\/a> completes our Mount Rushmore of golf components &#8211; and it\u2019s bumped a much-loved grip out of the top four, although we\u2019ve had to give this one a special mention (see below).<\/p>\n<p>Whereas the three components above have been around for decades, the Fujikura Ventus shafts are like the new kid on the block &#8211; which sort of makes them the Theodore Roosevelt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sheer domination in the last four, five, six years is almost unparalleled,\u201d says Joe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve not seen any numbers like this on shaft counts until back in the time where there were only about two shafts available &#8211; and now there are hundreds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo get the level of dominance that Ventus has had in that arena is just staggering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A brief overview of the technology &#8211; or should we say VeloCore technology.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, instead of relying on the outer layers of the shaft for stability, VeloCore utilizes that multi material core that runs the entire length of the shaft (handle to grip) to reduce twisting, particularly on off-center hits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen it and it\u2019s very quantifiable in testing,\u201d says Joe. \u201cThe dispersion is noticeably tighter. It\u2019s almost like a game improvement shaft.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Or, as Dan says, \u201ca shot improvement shaft\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The color coding system has also been well received &#8211; red, blue, and black, so you\u2019re know what you\u2019re getting.<\/p>\n<p>Expect Ventus to be around for a good number of years as one of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/best-golf-deals\/best-driver-shafts-236869\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/best-golf-deals\/best-driver-shafts-236869\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">best driver shafts<\/a> money can buy. As long as the Tour Velvet, Dynamic Gold and lead tape? There\u2019s nothing too technical about this simple rubber pistol grip, but Tiger gave it cult status.<\/p>\n<p>We could all see he had a Ping Man PP58 putter golf grip, even when, as a Scotty Cameron and Nike player, he used a Sharpie pen to try and disguise it.<\/p>\n<p>Both Dan and Joe have visited the famous Ping Vault in Arizona and laid their hands on this iconic black grip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt almost feels like there\u2019s just a little layer of tape over the shaft,\u201d says Dan.<\/p>\n<p>Woods loved it because he was a feel guy, and he liked a bit of rotation with his hands and a flow to the strike.<\/p>\n<p>One of the best golf components of all-time and certainly one of the best <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/best-golf-deals\/best-putter-grips-210131\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/best-golf-deals\/best-putter-grips-210131\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">putter grips<\/a>, but sadly it\u2019s not on our Mount Rushmore.<\/p>\n<p>Would it be in yours?
