Hawthorn<\/a> forward Calsher Dear will wear the No.13 in 2026 \u2013 the same jumper that was made famous by his late father Paul Dear.<\/p>\n

Paul wore the No.13 on 123 occasions for the Hawks, including in the 1991 grand final when he won the Norm Smith Medal \u2013 booting two goals and collecting 26 disposals in Hawthorn\u2019s 53-point win over West Coast.<\/p>\n

Calsher has worn the No.35 for the first two seasons of his career \u2013 including a breakout elimination final victory over the Western Bulldogs where he kicked three goals.<\/p>\n

Dylan Moore \u2013 who formerly wore the No.13 \u2013 has always told his teammate that the number was his when he wanted it \u2026 but reiterated that stance to him during this pre-season.<\/p>\n

Calsher consistently wore the No.13 through his junior career, and as a late developer \u2013 never held hopes of playing for the Hawks, let alone in his father\u2019s famous number.<\/p>\n

Paul was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020, eventually succumbing to the illness in July 2022 \u2013 just over a year before Calsher was drafted to the Hawks.<\/p>\n

Moore\u2019s gesture had an immediate impact on the Dear family.<\/p>\n

Calsher\u2019s mother, Cherie Dear, was in tears … and Calsher was certainly emotional when he spoke exclusively to 7NEWS about the No.13 and his unbreakable father-son bond.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just sort of another way to connect to dad, which sounds really nice,\u201d Calsher told 7NEWS.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, all these little things that I pick up along the way and I learn as I get older … it just makes me feel closer to him, which can be difficult.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019 think anyone ever thought that I would be pulling on that number.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means a lot … yeah, it\u2019s hard to describe.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Moore, he will now wear the No.8 in 2026.<\/p>\n

Hawthorn also announced that Nick Watson will move to the No.5 made famous by coach Sam Mitchell, while Connor Macdonald has taken on No.9.<\/p>\n
