The list, voted on by a group of 500 film executives, has previously featured future commercial hits and critical darlings like Promising Young Woman and Spotlight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAt the top of this year\u2019s list is the erotic thriller Best Seller from writer Matisse Haddad about a struggling writer, married to a famous novelist husband, who writes a viral tell-all that ignites a battle between the two. Elsewhere on the list is a disaster movie set around a Waffle House (The Waffle House Index by Andrew Nunnelly), a supernatural thriller that takes place on Mt. Everest (Frostbite by Michael Jones) and an eco-terrorist attack on the city of Los Angeles (Blackout by Kevin Yang).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSaid Black List founder Franklin Leonard, \u201cThis year\u2019s scripts, probably unsurprisingly, seemed preoccupied with what happens when the systems we live in \u2014 economic, political, algorithmic \u2014 stop working the way they\u2019re supposed to and, fortunately, with how we might build something better anyway.
