{"id":338085,"date":"2025-12-09T22:32:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T22:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/338085\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T22:32:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T22:32:09","slug":"horsham-golf-club-rises-in-national-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/338085\/","title":{"rendered":"Horsham Golf Club rises in national ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Horsham Golf Club project manager Cullen Williams said the course\u2019s jump up the rankings was a continuation of the club\u2019s recovery from the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s obviously a great achievement with the history of the club and the fires in 2009 wiping out a lot of the course,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen after getting into financial troubles nearly 10 years ago, to come back and have a course that is slowly coming back from outside the top 100 to being back in again is clearly a great achievement from everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Williams said the club\u2019s decision to make changes to its course under the guidance of course architects Mike Clayton and Mike DeVries in recent years had paid dividends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe course has improved in terms of playing condition in the last few years \u2013 the greens are a lot better and we\u2019ve made some slight changes to a few holes in our course plan,\u201d Mr Williams said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Williams said Mr Clayton had branded Horsham one of Australia\u2019s best inland golf courses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously down in Melbourne and along the peninsula there are a lot of really good, top-tier courses, but in terms of regional Victoria we would be up there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMike Clayton was saying it was one of the better inland courses in Australia \u2013 so one that\u2019s not along the coast or along the Murray or anything like that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOutside of Royal Canberra and Cathedral I think he said ours is one of the best inland courses in Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really blessed to have this as our course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Williams credited the ranking to the dedication of the club\u2019s staff and volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great achievement from the whole club, from the board of management through to the staff and volunteers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got some really good volunteers who give their time to help make the course what it is, and without them we\u2019d struggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really good that we\u2019ve got a strong community base out here who love the club and support it.
