Wide receiver Javon Baker<\/a> and guard Darrian Dalcourt <\/a>lost their NFL roster positions<\/a> on the same day \u2013 Oct. 14. The Alabama<\/a> alumni returned to the NFL on the same day, too.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Baker joined the San Francisco 49ers\u2019 practice squad<\/a>, and Dalcourt joined the Cleveland Browns\u2019 practice squad. Baker had been out of the league since the Philadelphia Eagles released him from their practice squad, and Dalcourt was most recently a member of the Carolina Panthers\u2019 practice squad.<\/p>\n

While Dalcourt\u2019s position has been listed as guard throughout his time in the NFL, the Browns called him a center in announcing his signing <\/a>on the same day that Cleveland put starting center Ethan Pocic on injured reserve with an Achilles tendon injury.<\/p>\n

Each NFL team has a practice squad of 16 members who do everything the players on the 53-man active roster do except play in the games. However, each NFL team can elevate two practice-squad players to temporary active status for each of its games.<\/p>\n

Baker played in 11 games, caught one pass and returned three kickoffs last season for the New England Patriots, who had chosen the wide receiver from UCF in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

Baker caught nine passes for 116 yards and one touchdown in two seasons at Alabama before posting 108 receptions for 1,935 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons at UCF.<\/p>\n

Baker did not survive the roster cut from the preseason to the regular season with New England in August and joined the Philadelphia practice squad on Sept. 5.<\/p>\n

Like Baker, Dalcourt is in his second NFL season. But he has never played in an NFL regular-season game.<\/p>\n

Dalcourt spent last season on the Baltimore Ravens\u2019 practice squad as an undrafted rookie. When he failed to make the Ravens\u2019 regular-season roster in August, he signed with the Washington Commanders for practice-squad duty. But two weeks in, Dalcourt got hurt and was released on Sept. 16.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 7, the Panthers picked up Dalcourt for their practice squad.
