The City of Gosnells confirmed with PerthNow that it understands the applicants, Ace Cinemas, will no longer proceed with the drive-in cinema proposal at Harmony Fields.

The plans put forward by the Rowe Group included a four-screen drive-in cinema with 800 parking bays, operating seven days a week, alongside a central cafe and mini golf course.

The proposal stated the cinema would operate from sunset until 1 am, with two screenings each night.

“The city has had discussions with the proponents and it is understood that the application will be withdrawn,” Mr Cowie said.

“The decision on whether to withdraw the application rests with the applicant and not the city.”

Currently, the only outdoor drive-in cinema in Perth is located north of the river in Kingsley.

Since the project was announced, Maddington residents have consistently voiced their opposition at numerous Gosnells council meetings. They believe the development would negatively affect local amenity, and raised concerns about noise, traffic and environmental issues.

News that the proposal will likely not proceed comes after Gosnells council unanimously supported a motion in May to tell Ace Cinemas it would no longer support the use of city land for the drive in proposal.

Following community consultation held late last year, the city had been preparing a report that included feedback from residents for the Metropolitan Outer Development Assessment Panel, which would make the final decision on the proposal.

Mr Cowie said another location was now in the mix for the drive in proposal he but was unable to confirm whether that was also within the City of Gosnells.

“The city is aware that the proponents are evaluating an alternative site for the proposal,” he said.

Gosnells mayor Terresa Lynes has previously stated Ace Cinemas originally intended to develop the drive-in at a site near the Tom Bateman Wetlands in Thornlie.

However, she said the State Government, which was using the site as a laydown area for the Thornlie–Cockburn Link rail works, did not support the proposal, as it now plans to rehabilitate the land.

Ace Cinemas declined to comment at this stage.

Plans to build a $12 million outdoor drive-in cinema in Maddington appears to have been parked, following community…

[32
64,63,31114,447,505,134,46,8080,18607,45
post-33891","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-celebrities","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-canning","tag-celebrities","tag-central","tag-entertainment","tag-perth","tag-south","tag-southern","tag-wa-news
["GET
