\u201cLady\u201d Mir is coming.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s always interesting when MMA prodigies begin their rise, and Bella Mir \u2014 daughter of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Frank Mir \u2014 absolutely fits that mold. But despite the hype, her transition to full-time MMA has been a slow, deliberate process for the 22-year-old.<\/p>\n
So when is she finally committing full-time?<\/p>\n
The answer is pretty simple: whenever her dad says so.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s whatever dad says,\u201d Mir told MMAMania.com<\/a> today. \u201cI honestly don\u2019t know. If dad says this next one over the next summer, or do one more, then go to the Contender Series \u2014 obviously the UFC would be the next step. I think it\u2019s just whatever he thinks is the right move. I\u2019m always listening to what he has to say.\u201d<\/p>\n Father knows best, right?<\/p>\n Bella\u2019s intentions have always been clear: finish her college wrestling career while continuing to compete in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and MMA, then make her move toward the UFC. She\u2019s currently deep into her junior-year wrestling season with several major tournaments on deck.<\/p>\n \u201cWrestling is going good, I\u2019m in the middle of the season right now,\u201d Mir said. \u201cNext tournament is [Ken Kraft] Midlands at University of Illinois and if you win that, you\u2019re really, really good. Then the national duals are in January \u2014 that\u2019s important because that\u2019s who the best team is \u2014 and then obviously, NCAA\u2019s in March. I\u2019ve got a pretty busy three months coming up.\u201d<\/p>\n Mir improved to 4-0 in MMA this past summer with a nasty hammerlock finish (watch highlights<\/a>) and will compete tomorrow against Rana Willink at UFC BJJ 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n With Bella headed into her senior year at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, it feels like only a matter of time before she aims to carry on her father\u2019s legacy \u2014 while carving out one of her own in the MMA world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cLady\u201d Mir is coming.
