Kylian Mbapp\u00e9<\/a> was an unused substitute in Real Madrid<\/a>‘s 2-1 home loss<\/a> to Manchester City<\/a> in the Champions League<\/a> on Wednesday, amid fitness concerns over the star forward.<\/p>\n

Mbapp\u00e9, who has scored 25 goals for Madrid this season, was left out of Madrid’s starting lineup and stayed on the bench throughout the 90 minutes.<\/p>\n

The forward was among those complaining from the Madrid bench when City scored a first-half equaliser. Mbapp\u00e9 talked to the fourth official, pointing to a possible foul on Madrid defender Antonio R\u00fcdiger during the corner-kick into the area.<\/p>\n

Mbapp\u00e9 did not train with his teammates in Madrid’s session at Valdebebas on Tuesday after suffering a muscular problem, and the club had delayed the announcement of the squad to face City, pending medical tests.<\/p>\n

A source had told ESPN that Mbapp\u00e9 had been pushing to be involved, but would not be 100% fit for the game.<\/p>\n

“We still don’t know if he’ll make it for Sunday [away at Alaves], but today he wasn’t able to play,” Madrid coach Xabi Alonso told a news conference after. “We had enough chances to score the second goal.”<\/p>\n

In his place, Gonzalo Garc\u00eda<\/a> led the attack for Madrid, alongside Vin\u00edcius J\u00fanior<\/a> and Rodrygo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rodrygo scored the opening goal at the Bernabeu before Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland struck late in the first half to deliver City the win.<\/p>\n

The result puts more pressure on Alonso, whose position has come under scrutiny after a run of one win in five games in LaLiga, including Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ESPN has reported that Madrid president Florentino P\u00e9rez met with club executives to discuss Alonso’s future after the Celta loss.<\/p>\n

Mbapp\u00e9 scored four goals in Madrid’s last Champions League outing, a 4-3 win at Olympiacos<\/a>, as well as a hat trick against Kairat Almaty<\/a> and two goals against Olympique Marseille<\/a>, although he failed to score in games with Juventus<\/a> and Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Madrid were without seven other first-team players for the City game, including Dean Huijsen<\/a> and Eduardo Camavinga<\/a>, who were not included in the squad.<\/p>\n

\u00c9der Milit\u00e3o<\/a>, David Alaba<\/a>, Ferland Mendy<\/a>, Dani Carvajal<\/a> and Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> were also missing for the clash.<\/p>\n
