Sylvester Stallone<\/a> has spoken out after being spotted using a cane as he walked down the red carpet<\/a> at a recent event.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe Rocky star<\/a>, 79, attended the Kennedy Center Honors event in Washington, D.C. on Sunday alongside wife Jennifer Flavin, with a black cane with a gold handle in his hand.<\/p>\n

Now, a representative has confirmed why the star needed the cane, which is typically used to aid mobility.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared to US Weekly,<\/a> \ufeffthey said Stallone recently had surgery.<\/p>\n

“Sly is using a cane due to back surgery,” they said.<\/p>\n

“He appreciates everyone’s concern and support.”\ufeff<\/p>\n

On the evening, Stallone and Flavin dressed up to the nines, with the actor looking dapper in a black tuxedo and bowtie.<\/p>\n

Flavin wore a sleek silver and black embellished \ufeffdress as they hit the red carpet.<\/p>\n

The pair are going strong and have been married since 1997. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Stallone was among the celebrity honourees at the event, receiving a medal from US president Donald Trump, who described him as the star of “some of the greatest movies ever”.<\/p>\n

“These are among the greatest actors and performers of their generation,” Trump said.<\/p>\n

“Each of you has made an indelible mark on American life, and together you have defined entire genres, and set new standards for the performing arts.”<\/p>\n

After receiving the honour, Stallone shared a post on Instagram with his more than 19.2million followers commenting on the feat.<\/p>\n

“Honored to receive this year’s Kennedy Center Honors medal for championing the performing arts. Thank you all for the support over the years, keep punching!” he wrote to his fans, seemingly referring to his iconic Rocky character.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The actor reportedly revealed on his reality show The Family Stallone last year that \ufeffhe was having his seventh back surgery.<\/p>\n

He was injured on set of 2010’s The Expendables during a fight scene.<\/p>\n
