{"id":341968,"date":"2025-12-12T00:25:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T00:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/341968\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T00:25:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T00:25:10","slug":"ardie-savea-leads-starstudded-lineup-as-new-zealand-rugby-honours-its-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/341968\/","title":{"rendered":"Ardie Savea leads starstudded lineup as New Zealand Rugby honours its best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">All Blacks and Moana Pasifika star Ardie Savea was the standout at Thursday night\u2019s New Zealand Rugby Awards, taking home three major titles after one of the strongest seasons of his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">The 32-year-old loose forward won the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year, All Blacks Player of the Year, and Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">The awards cap off a year in which he also reached the milestone of 100 Test caps for New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">Although Savea has not made a public statement since the event, New Zealand Rugby CEO Mark Robinson praised the veteran for his leadership and consistency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">\u201cArdie has a level of consistency that is unmatched, and his three awards tonight demonstrate that,\u201d Robinson says in a statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">\u201cHe keeps raising the bar for what\u2019s possible on an individual level, and brings his inspirational leadership to every environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/72ddf4703733d0d6d690ba6886a9f434d63cbcfe-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"h-full w-full object-cover\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-sm leading-4\">2025 Super Rugby Player of the Year Ardie Savea led Moana Pasifika to finish their season at seventh place, their best finish since they made their debut in 2022. Photo\/Photosport\/Matthew Impey<\/p>\n<p>Woodman-Wickliffe makes history<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">Rugby legend Portia Woodman-Wickliffe (Ng\u0101puhi\/Ng\u0101ti Kahu ki Whaingaroa\/Ng\u0101ti Porou) collected two awards on the night, including Sky Super Rugby Aupiki Player of the Year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">She also won the Tom French Memorial M\u0101ori Player of the Year for the first time in her career, in recognition of her on-field impact and her role as a M\u0101ori leader in rugby.<\/p>\n<p>Sevens teams continue success<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">The Black Ferns Sevens were named the New Zealand Team of the Year, while their coach Cory Sweeney took out ASB Coach of the Year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">Sweeney has now won the top coaching award six times, making him the most successful coach in the category\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-lg leading-6 lg:text-xl lg:leading-6\">World Rugby Women\u2019s Sevens Player of the Year Jorja Miller picked up the Black Ferns Sevens Player of the Year, and new captain Tone Ng Shiu was named All Blacks Sevens Player of the Year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/a690e5fcc87abf6e58a10819969945afd0c165af-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"h-full w-full object-cover\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-sm leading-4\">Braxton Sorensen-McGee won the Junior M\u0101ori Sportswomen Award\/Te Tam\u0101hine-\u0101-Papat\u016b\u0101nuku at the 2025 Maori Sports Awards at Turangawaewae Marae, Ngaruawahia, on 29 November.
