Brennan joined Team Visma | Lease a Bike\u2019s WorldTeam at the beginning of 2025, having spent only one season with the squad\u2019s development setup. The step up proved seamless. He opened his season by winning his first two races, added a stage at the Giro NextGen and stood on the podium at the Circuit de Wallonie, before continuing to climb the competitive ladder as the year progressed.<\/p>\n

Visma themselves acknowledge that his calendar was repeatedly adjusted as his level became impossible to ignore. Brennan picked up wins alongside the development team at the Tour des 100 Communes and GP de la Ville de Lillers, before claiming victories at .Pro level in the GP de Denain and at WorldTour level in the Volta a Catalunya. The result was a season that finished well beyond initial projections.<\/p>\n

\u201cMatthew has really surprised us in a positive way this season,\u201d said Head of Racing Grischa Niermann<\/a> in an official press release<\/a>. \u201cOf course, we already knew him well, because he came through our own ranks. As a team, we constantly adapted to his level and offered him races and challenges tailored to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Niermann was careful to stress that the long contract is about development rather than instant stardom. \u201cHe has made big steps in his development this season, but still has a lot to learn. We see working with him as a long term project, and that is why we are so happy that he feels the same way. In the coming years, we want to help him take the step to the highest level in cycling. He may continue to surprise us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trust, stability and time to grow<\/p>\n

Brennan\u2019s own words mirror that measured approach. Rather than setting out specific ambitions or targets, he focused on environment and trust as the key reasons for committing his future so early.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe environment in this team is so unique: it is partly thanks to the team that I have already been able to develop myself so much,\u201d Brennan said. \u201cEveryone can help me become a better rider, both the staff and the other riders. And on top of that, I feel the trust I need here. I am happy here and very grateful for the opportunity to take the next steps in my career over such a long period and without pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Visma, the extension fits neatly into a familiar pattern. The team have repeatedly shown a willingness to invest early and heavily in riders they believe in, prioritising continuity and gradual progression over short term hype. For Brennan, the deal offers something just as valuable: time.<\/p>\n

After a 2025 season that exceeded expectations at every level, the message from both rider and team is clear.
