{"id":343596,"date":"2025-12-12T17:33:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T17:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/343596\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T17:33:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T17:33:07","slug":"blue-jays-reward-president-mark-shapiro-with-5-year-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/343596\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Jays reward president Mark Shapiro with 5-year contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/tor\/toronto-blue-jays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Jays<\/a> president and CEO Mark Shapiro and Toronto agreed to a new five-year contract following the team&#8217;s first American League pennant since 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto announced the agreement Friday, six weeks after the Blue Jays came within two outs of the title before losing Game 7 of the World Series to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/lad\/los-angeles-dodgers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro, 58, took over as president and CEO when Paul Beeston retired after the 2015 season. Shapiro had spent 24 seasons with Cleveland, including the previous five as team president.<\/p>\n<p>Ross Atkins, who worked for Shapiro in Cleveland, was hired as Blue Jays general manager in December 2015.
