{"id":344001,"date":"2025-12-12T21:47:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T21:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/344001\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T21:47:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T21:47:08","slug":"lando-norris-finally-lifts-f1-trophy-crowned-champion-at-fia-gala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/344001\/","title":{"rendered":"Lando Norris finally lifts F1 trophy, crowned champion at FIA gala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lando Norris has officially been crowned the 2025 F1 world champion at the FIA\u2019s prize-giving gala.<\/p>\n<p>The McLaren driver was presented with the drivers\u2019 world championship trophy for the first time in his F1 career at the FIA\u2019s awards ceremony on Friday evening in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/racer\/912058\/lando-norris\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Norris<\/a> collected his trophy from FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who has been re-elected for a second four-year term.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old Briton clinched his maiden world championship by finishing third at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Norris pipped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/racer\/852\/max-verstappen\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Verstappen<\/a> to the title by two points to end the Red Bull driver\u2019s four-year reign at the top of F1, and become the first McLaren driver to win the championship since<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/racer\/9\/lewis-hamilton\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Lewis Hamilton<\/a> in 2008.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Norris\u2019s McLaren teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/racer\/1014409\/oscar-piastri\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar Piastri<\/a>, who finished third in the world championship, 13 points shy of winning his maiden world title, was also in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/news\/1088192\/1\/why-f1-runner-max-verstappen-will-be-missing-fia-awards-gala\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">missed the event due to illness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McLaren team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown collected the Woking squad\u2019s second consecutive constructors\u2019 championship trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Why did Norris have to wait for trophy?<\/p>\n<p>Norris was not able to get his hands on the trophy immediately after winning the championship in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>A replica of the trophy, which was created in 1995, was on the grid ahead of the season finale, but the real thing was flown to Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>F1\u2019s governing body the FIA award the trophy, which is made up of silver and gold and has each champion\u2019s signature engraved on the outside, alongside their name and winning year, during their annual awards gala.<\/p>\n<p>Trophies are presented some time after the final race of the season because the FIA\u2019s International Sporting Code allows competitors to ask for a right of review.<\/p>\n<p>The FIA\u2019s awards ceremony is the traditional end to the motorsport season.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to our F1 Newsletter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Lando Norris has officially been crowned the 2025 F1 world champion at the FIA\u2019s prize-giving gala.
