A man has been charged following a serious assault on the Gold Coast that left an 18-year-old man in a critical condition.<\/p>\n
Police said a 27-year-old woman was walking along Christine Avenue in Varsity Lakes just after 10:30pm on Friday, when she found an 18-year-old Carrara man unconscious and with serious head injuries.<\/p>\n
It is alleged the man had been assaulted by a 34-year-old man, not known to him.<\/p>\n
Upon calling emergency services for assistance, it is alleged the same offender, who had been waiting nearby, then assaulted the woman.<\/p>\n
Police arrived at the scene a short time later and took the man into custody.<\/p>\n
During his arrest, it is further alleged the man spat on a police officer.<\/p>\n
A 34-year-old Moggill man has since been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, serious assault police officer and common assault.<\/p>\n
He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.<\/p>\n
The woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n
