Independent Swiss manufacture Armin Strom<\/a> builds its creations so that every component of a fine timepiece is seen, understood, and admired. Founded in 1967 and revitalised in 2009 by Serge Michel<\/a> and master watchmaker Claude Greisler<\/a>, the Biel\/Bienne-based brand merges traditional hand-finishing with innovative technical ideas. Its System 78 collection<\/a>, named for the partners\u2019 shared birth year, represents the brand\u00b4s drive for uncompromising innovation made accessible to collectors of independent horology.<\/p>\n

The Gravity Equal Force (GEF), first introduced in 2019<\/a>, marked a point in modern watchmaking. It was the world\u2019s first automatic watch with a stop-work declutch mechanism integrated into the mainspring barrel, an innovation that ensures consistent torque and stable accuracy throughout the power reserve. Beyond its mechanical intelligence, the GEF also introduced an unmistakable aesthetic language: an off-centred sapphire sub-dial revealing the movement\u2019s key components, barrel, gear train, micro-rotor, arranged with pocket-watch-inspired finger bridges.<\/p>\n

The Gravity Equal Force Ultimate Sapphire Salmon retains the familiar 41mm stainless steel case, measuring 12.65mm in height, and the brand\u2019s signature lip at 6 o\u2019clock. Alternating polished and brushed finishes highlight its lines, while anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both sides reveal the calibre in full. The salmon-coloured PVD mainplate with hand-guilloch\u00e9 in a delicate barley grain pattern by Kari Voutilainen<\/a> provides this new model its name.<\/p>\n

The watch\u2019s architecture unfolds like a mechanical landscape: the micro-rotor at one o\u2019clock, the equal-force barrel at five, and the gear train connecting them. The mechanism we see front and back is the Armin Strom Calibre ASB19<\/a>, an in-house automatic movement built around the patented Equal Force Barrel. By using a Geneva stop-work system and a declutch mechanism inside the barrel, the ASB19 delivers constant force to the escapement, maintaining amplitude stability and improving isochronism over its 72-hour power reserve.<\/p>\n

The movement beats at 25,200 vibrations\/hour and features a screwed balance with four regulating screws for precision adjustment.\u00a0As with every Armin Strom calibre, each component is hand-finished and assembled twice in the brand\u2019s Biel manufacture. Finishing details include polished bevels, Geneva stripes, perlage, and black-polished screws, all executed to haute horlogerie standards.<\/p>\n
