Malone joins Hampton from an assistant coach role at Kansas State. Colzie was fired after two years at the helm, finishing with a\u00a012\u201312 record overall after a 5-7 finish this year.<\/p>\n MEAC announces players of the year<\/p>\n The MEAC announced that\u00a0North Carolina Central quarterback Walker Harris and South Carolina State cornerback Jarrod Washington were named conference offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively. The announcement was made at the\u00a067th Annual National Football Foundation (NFF) Hall of Fame Press Conference in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n Prairie View A&M wins the SWAC<\/p>\n Prairie View A&M won the 2025 SWAC Football Championship Game, defeating Jackson State 23-21 in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Panthers won the SWAC title in head coach Tremaine Jackson’s first year and take home the conference title for the first time since 2009.<\/p>\n 2025 All-HBCU team<\/p>\n 2025 marks the fifth consecutive year of listing the top players in HBCU football.\u00a0Here are the top players, by position, from the 2025 HBCU football season.<\/p>\n Click or tap here for the full list<\/a><\/p>\n Southern hires NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk<\/p>\n Southern has officially hired Marshall Faulk as the 22nd head coach of the football team. Faulk joins Southern after previously serving as the running backs coach for Colorado under former Jackson State coach Deion Sanders.<\/p>\n Faulk was a three-time Heisman Trophy finalist, the No. 2 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft,\u00a01994 Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and 2000 NFL MVP. Hampton finished 2-10 this year after a 5-7 season during the first year of Boykin’s tenure. Hampton only had one Division I win this year.<\/p>\n Hampton joins Southern as the two HBCUs to fire head football coaches this cycle.<\/p>\n FCS regular season attendance leaders<\/p>\n HBCUs again set the pace in FCS attendance, with Jackson State’s average of\u00a028,733 fans leading the FCS. The win clinches a SWAC East title for the Tigers, it’s second straight and fourth in the last five years.\u00a0<\/p>\n With the win, Jackson State will host Prairie View A&M in the SWAC title game<\/a> on Dec. 6, 2025.<\/p>\n South Carolina State wins the MEAC<\/p>\n South Carolina State won the MEAC with a 28-17 win over Delaware State on the road. Handley has taken over as the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs after Quad Brown got injured.<\/p>\n The Jerry Rice Award is in its 15th year, named after HBCU and Mississippi Valley State great Jerry Rice.\u00a0 The 2025 winner will be announced on December 3.<\/p>\n Southern fires head coach<\/p>\n The Southern Jaguars have fired head football coach Terrence Graves. Graves most recently lost in blowout fashion on homecoming, dropping Southern’s 2025 record to 1-6. Graves won the 2024 SWAC West title last season with an 8-5 record, going 7-1 in SWAC play. He first took over as Southern’s interim head coach in 2023, leading the Jaguars to a win in the 50th Bayou Classic.<\/p>\n Fred McNair wil take over as interim head coach this year. McNair was the co-offensive coordinator under Graves, where Southern had the worst scoring offense and total offense in SWAC.
