\n\tNico Ballesteros\u2019 documentary<\/a> about Kanye West<\/a> is hitting streamers at midnight.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Whose Name? will be accessible on Apple, Amazon, Google\/YouTube and Fandango (in select territories) after being released theatrically on Sept. 19.<\/p>\n

\n\tBallesteros began shadowing the rapper, also known as Ye, when he was a mere 18 over a period of six years. The doc chronicles West\u2019s bipolar diagnosis, his mental health struggles, the demolition of his marriage to Kim Kardashian and his controversies over the years.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am humbled at the reception this movie has gotten from audiences, critics and my peers in the filmmaking community,\u201d Ballesteros said in a statement. \u201cBy extending its reach beyond the theater, the film brings its\u00a0exploration of American belief, power and identity to a global audience, offering a deeper understanding of America\u2019s contradictions while illuminating the life and legacy of one of the most iconic entertainers of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the teaser<\/a> for the doc, West says, \u201cI\u2019m off my meds for five months now. \u2026 I would rather be dead than be on medication.\u201d One viral moment from In Whose Name? that The Hollywood Reporter exclusively obtained before its release saw the rapper and Elon Musk discuss the billionaire\u2019s relationship<\/a> with his former partner and mother of three of his children, Grimes. (Her real name is Claire Elise Boucher.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo are you and Kim like off and on or something? Or, I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s hard to tell,\u201d Musk said to West, to which he didn\u2019t answer. \u201cClaire and I, Grimes, we\u2019re sort of \u2026 in the same text stream, she\u2019s like, \u2018I love you.\u2019 And then, like, you know, a day later, like, \u2018I hate you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnd what do you do?\u201d West asked. \u201cAnd you probably know exactly, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Whoa, OK.\u2019 Yeah, exactly,\u201d Musk responded, which led to a long pause before the \u201cI Wonder\u201d rapper responded, \u201cI don\u2019t have answers. Answers to everything except for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd Musk isn\u2019t the only high profile cameo, as President Donald Trump, Beyonc\u00e9, Jay-Z, Drake,\u00a0Rihanna,\u00a0LeBron James, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams, Diddy, Anna Wintour, the late Charlie Kirk and\u00a0Kim Kardashian all appear in the doc.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film\u2019s official synopsis reads, \u201cWhat began as silent observation evolved into a profound journey of artistic and personal growth. Immersed in Ye\u2019s world of extremes, he bore witness to brilliance and breakdowns, triumphs and turmoil; but also observed the paranoia and intensity that increasingly shaped Ye\u2019s world. In the end, Ballesteros captured not just a portrait of Ye, but a reflection of the human condition in all its contradictions.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tFilmmaker Ballesteros spoke with THR<\/a> ahead of the doc\u2019s release, where he said it was \u201cvery important\u201d to him that the project had a theatrical release when asked how he hopes it will be received.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI cut a film for the theatrical experience, not for anything else. I edited the film in a theater. The fact that it\u2019s getting a wide release and not something that\u2019s limited or only available for a weekend already, is something that I\u2019m so grateful for,\u201d he said. \u201cThat alone really is the world to me, honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n
