Oscar Piastri has explained he is planning talks with McLaren bosses over the winter to discuss potential changes to the ‘Papaya rules’ he and Lando Norris race under.<\/p>\n
To ensure fairness between both drivers, McLaren implemented its so-called ‘Papaya rules’ in 2024, with both drivers having to cede position to the other at times to ensure a fair result as they battle for wins, and in 2025, the drivers’ world championship.<\/p>\n
At times, Piastri felt that the rules had gone against him, such as when Norris barged past at Turn 2 in Singapore for third place, but the Australian has defended the approach.<\/p>\n
However, he has explained that he is “sure” discussions will take place to see if any tweaks can be made ahead of the 2026 campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I think it is a testament to the way we go racing,” Piastri told media, including RacingNews365, of papaya rules.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, it\u2019s not easy fighting for both the Constructors\u2019 Championship and the Drivers\u2019 Championship with two very evenly matched drivers. But ultimately, that\u2019s a problem we knew we were going to have.<\/p>\n
“At the end of the day, I think there are a lot of good things that come from that. Yes, there are difficult moments and tension at times, but I think both Lando and I have become better drivers from pushing each other to the limit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Sometimes that\u2019s been uncomfortable for everyone, but ultimately, yeah, it\u2019s been a good thing. We\u2019ve had a lot of discussions throughout the year, and I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll have discussions in the off-season about anything we want to do slightly differently for next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
