He made 42 appearances for Brisbane over three years in total to ensure he has plenty of NRL experience under his belt and in truth, he probably could have stayed in the competition down under.

However, the versatile hooker/loose forward, who started his career with Melbourne Storm, believes the move to Super League can help take his career to the next level, with the forward keen to go from playing a bit part role to a leading one.

That’s the motivation behind the move, with the 26-year-old eager to make a telling impact for Daryl Powell’s side next season.

“Hopefully,” Smoothy told Serious About Rugby League when asked if he felt his best years were still in front of him. “I just want to play consistently, I’ve had maybe one or two consistent years where I got to play in the team consistently and I’m still looking for that.

“The last time I’ve done that was at Q Cup level so I want to do it at a higher level and see where I can take myself. I think I’m just in my prime.”

Expanding on why he was keen to make the move, he added: “Back home I was in and out of the team a bit so hopefully I can play more consistent and just the experience for myself and my family. It’s not every day you get to work on the other side of the world and get paid for it.

“I’ve never been to England so hopefully I’ll get to travel a little it and get around and with the footy, it’s just about consistency and enjoying it.”

Wakefield Trinity man Tyson Smoothy on his preferred position

Smoothy has been handed the nine shirt, which seems to be a fairly clear indication of where he’ll play through 2026, but like Jazz Tevaga, he can also play at loose-forward, meaning Powell has options at his disposal.

Speaking on his preferred position, though, Smoothy added: “Hopefully I’ll play nine but nothing is locked in yet. My preferred position is nine but I’ll play wherever.”

Check out the latest episode of The Serious About Rugby League Show on our YouTube channel here.

Wakefield Trinity fans can expect to watch a man in his prime in Tyson Smoothy over the next…

[568
64,63,761,762,158,85
0":"post-347898","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nrl","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-national-rugby-league","11":"tag-nationalrugbyleague","12":"tag-nrl","13":"tag-sports
["GET
