The squads for the BBL|15 season opener have been named, with Sean Abbott and Jordan Silk to miss, while there were updates on the Renegades\u2019 warm-up game and more.<\/p>\n

SQUAD NEWS<\/p>\n

The Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers named their 14-player squads for Sunday\u2019s season opener with some big absentees, including Jhye Richardson, Matt Kelly, Sean Abbott, Jafer Chohan and Kane Richardson.<\/p>\n

The Sixers revealed Jordan Silk will miss the game for personal reasons. They\u2019ve also added fast bowler Charlie Stobo and batsman Harjas Singh as Local Replacement Players for Abbott (hamstring) and Chohan (illness) respectively.<\/p>\n

On the absent duo, the Sixers said: \u201cAbbott has returned to training and the club will monitor his progress in coming days, while Chohan\u2019s recovery from illness will also be monitored.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Scorchers didn\u2019t explain the absence of Kelly but he did miss WA\u2019s final Shield game with a finger injury.<\/p>\n

UPDATES<\/p>\n

\u2018GADES WARM-UP GAME<\/p>\n

Melbourne Renegades captain Will Sutherland offered some insights into their likely XI ahead of their opener on Monday in Geelong, providing some updates from their warm-up game.<\/p>\n

Sutherland said: \u201cWe had a hit-out on the ground and get familiar with the stadium. Wicket played realty well. All the boys played quite well. Everyone got a few runs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s good seeing Jason Behrendorff in action. Jake Fraser-McGurk batted well, Josh Brown whacked a few at the top. Hopefully we see a few more this season.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Hassan Khan) bated really well. He smacked a few. He\u2019ll like the dimensions of Geelong, short square. He\u2019s very reliable with the ball. His left-arm orthos are handy. Hopefully get 4 overs out of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

ROGERS INJURY UPDATE<\/p>\n

The Renegades confirmed Scorchers veteran Andrew Tye as a local replacement player, but surprisingly he\u2019s come into squad for Tom Rogers, who is out with a shoulder injury, following off-season surgery.<\/p>\n

On Rogers, Sutherland said: \u201cTommy Rogers is progressing really well. He\u2019s probably on track for hopefully early January, if not sooner than that. He leaves no stone unturned with his rehab. He\u2019s put his best foot forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

RIZWAN TO TAKE GLOVES<\/p>\n

Sutherland also revealed Pakistani import Mohammad Rizwan will open the batting and take the gloves, with New Zealander Tim Seifert to drop down the order and field on the outfield.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cRizwan has been awesome around the group. He\u2019s a really bubbly character. He brings some good energy behind the stumps.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019ll really enjoy opening the batting at GMHBA and Marvel\u2026 Riz will take the gloves. It\u2019ll be interesting see Seif out there, he was charging around in the practice game. He\u2019s quite a good fielder as well, he\u2019ll fit in in the outfield.\u201d<\/p>\n

KUHN TO TAKE ON NEW BOWLING ROLE<\/p>\n

Matt Kuhnemann says he\u2019s willing to take on \u201charder overs\u201d as the Brisbane Heat\u2019s no.1 spinner this season, following Mitch Swepson\u2019s exit to the Stars.<\/p>\n

Kuhnemann said: \u201cMitch is going to be a massive loss for us, but \u2026 my role is just being adaptable to whenever I\u2019m needed to bowl. If I have to bowl the harder overs, then so be it. It\u2019s something that I want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The left-arm spinner also talked up the ability of Hugh Weibgen, Matt Renshaw and Nathan McSweeney to offer some part-time spin, amid talk of Paddy Dooley being added as an LRP.<\/p>\n

Kuhnemann said: \u201cAll three of them are really handy bowlers. I\u2019ve got faith that they can do a good job for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

LOCAL REPLACEMENT PLAYERS TO COME<\/p>\n

The Hobart Hurricanes confirmed the addition of bowling all-rounder Will Prestwidge to their squad, replacing Jake Weatherald who is in the Test side.<\/p>\n

According to Code Sports, the Heat will sign ex-Hobart spinner Paddy Dooley as an LRP, while ex-Scorchers and Strikers fast bowler Liam Haskett and youngster Tom Balkin are being considered to replace the injured Spencer Johnson and Callum Vidler.<\/p>\n

The Strikers are likely to add Harry Manenti and Jerrssis Wadia as replacements for Test pair Travis Head and Alex Carey.<\/p>\n
