Outgoing Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko<\/a> has alleged that Christian Horner played \u201cdirty games\u201d in a bid to get him ousted from his role at the Formula 1<\/a> team.<\/p>\n

Marko announced his exit from the Milton Keynes-based squad earlier this month, after leading its junior programme for more than two decades.<\/p>\n

Having joined the Austrian energy drinks giant\u2019s F1 project in 2005, he led the team to eight Drivers\u2019 and six Constructors\u2019 titles alongside ex-Team Principal and CEO Horner.<\/p>\n

Horner himself had been shown the exit doors to the team in July, amid an internal power struggle kicked off by the Briton\u2019s inappropriate behaviour scandal at the start of 2024.<\/p>\n

While Marko has denied any suggestion that Horner\u2019s dismissal was politically motivated, the 82-year-old insisted that Horner wanted it to be that way. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s how it\u2019s always been described in the media, but it wasn\u2019t personal,\u201d Marko told De Limburger. <\/p>\n

The Austrian delivered a rather insightful glimpse into how Horner had angled in on taking over the reins as Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz\u2019s health deteriorated.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with Didi, I founded Red Bull Racing in 2005. We appointed Horner as team principal, and I was there as supervisor,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn principle, the power always lay in Austria; we made the decisions. I remember a party in 2022 prior to the Austrian Grand Prix. Didi was there, but he wasn\u2019t in good health.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marko alleged that the Briton had been trying to \u201ccosy up\u201d to Red Bull co-founder Chalerm Yoovidhya in a bid to upstage the Austrian half of the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cChristian came up to me and said: \u2018He won\u2019t make it to the end of the year.\u2019 From that moment on, he started cosying up to Chalerm Yoovidhya,\u201d he revealed. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Didi passed away later that year, he did everything he could to take over with Yoovidhya\u2019s support. On behalf of \u2018Austria\u2019, I did everything I could to prevent that from happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marko laments Horner\u2019s \u201cdirty games\u201d<\/p>\n

In the wake of Horner\u2019s departure, Marko had already been hinting at a change of atmosphere within the team<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Referring to Laurent Mekies\u2019 appointment as the new boss, the 82-year-old took a sly jab at his former partner-in-crime. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe [Mekies] gets along well with people, there is a totally different atmosphere than before,\u201d he had told OE24 back in September.<\/p>\n

Now, he has dug deeper into the last few years working with Horner, and how the Briton employed \u201cdirty games\u201d to see him sacked. <\/p>\n

In fact, Marko has alleged Horner fabricating and twisting words Marko had uttered to Red Bull\u2019s in-house channel ServusTV and the media to suspend the 82-year-old.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose last few years with Horner were not pleasant. There were dirty games being played,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you remember me saying, during Sergio Perez\u2019s time, that Mexicans are less focused than the Dutch or Germans? That was fabricated, perhaps by them.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust like I supposedly spread the rumour in 2024 that the development of our engine was behind schedule and that we would therefore lose Ford as our sponsor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never said that, but Horner wanted to use it to suspend me. Because Max stepped in at Jeddah, it didn\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
