Then you get him again, and again.

“But Tim was never in a position to do that.

“So he needs to be shown because I know Tim really is a smart fighter … but there are things that just haven’t been explained to him.”

Tim Tszyu pictured with Jeff Fenech. Picture: Rohan KellySource: Supplied

Fenech suggested another concern was, if Tszyu wins, it simply covers over the issues with his new coach.

“I know it’s nice to feel happy and make plenty of noise when you’re hitting pads,” he said. “But it’s not about that.

“So is Pedro Diaz better than the guys he had before?

“Obviously the guy has been around some great fighters, but watching Tim now in training seems no different to the fighter I watched prior to the downfall.

“I’ve told Tim when he was at my house, he needs someone to show him what he’s doing wrong.

“Someone who not only between rounds can tell him what to do, but has already practiced doing it with him.

“Because if I’ve never practiced something, how do I do it?

“And the practice I see Tim getting now, it isn’t what happens in a fight.

“When you’re doing padwork, you should be replicating what your opponent is doing.

“Think about the late, great Emanuel Steward, who when he was doing pad work would always be saying ‘Ok, this is your opponent’.

“Same with Freddie Roach.

“Your opponent doesn’t headbutt your punches.

“They also don’t stand still when you’re throwing 20 punches, they [move], go backwards.

“When we start with shadow sparring, we duplicate someone being there.

“We’re looking to touch him, make him miss, get your distance, go forwards, side to side … when you do your pad work it’s the same thing.

“Same with sparring.

“Tim seems to be doing none of that.”

MORE TSZYU VS VELAZQUEZ NEWS

‘GOING TO QUIT AGAIN’: <a
