Richmond is being tipped to throw a late AFLW Draft curveball, with a new Pick 1 favourite emerging just hours before the event.<\/p>\n

Around 45 to 50 players are set to be taken at Monday night\u2019s AFLW draft, which begins at 7pm (AEDT) live and exclusive on Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

As first reported by AFL Media\u2019s Riley Beveridge, foxfooty.com.au understands the Tigers are set to take Subiaco forward Olivia Wolmarans.<\/p>\n

With Pick 2, the Giants are then expected to pounce on Northern Knights winger Scarlett Johnson, who Richmond had previously been strongly linked to.<\/p>\n

There\u2019ll be more drama from Pick 3 onwards, based on GWS\u2019 decision on Sydney\u2019s top two academy prospects.<\/p>\n

Contrary to months of industry speculation \u2014 which prompted significant moves in the trade period \u2014 foxfooty.com.au understands the Giants are contemplating bidding on Swans-tied midfielder Kiera Yerbury ahead of fellow academy prospect Alex Neyland, despite the club\u2019s strong and long-held links to the latter player.<\/p>\n

Both Neyland \u2014 an athletic, smooth-moving 178cm utility who\u2019s soared up draft boards across the year \u2014 and Yerbury have been invited to attend the draft at Marvel Stadium.<\/p>\n

Sources in recent days have suggested Sydney would be less likely to match a bid on Yerbury \u2013 despite holding an eligible selection (Pick 18) to do so \u2013 amid intel Neyland\u2019s name would likely be called first. But whether the Swans\u2019 matching strategy changes with a Yerbury-Pick 3 bid \u2013 and whether the Giants would still bid on Neyland if Sydney matched for Yerbury \u2013 remains of great intrigue to rival clubs. <\/p>\n

Nonetheless, it\u2019s a significant pre-draft development, considering what the Swans pulled off during last week\u2019s trade period.<\/p>\n

Not only did the Swans acquire contracted All-Australian and premiership Lions forward Taylor Smith \u2014 a move that cost them Pick 11 and their future first-rounder as part of the exchange \u2014 they also secured Pick 18 back from Brisbane in a deadline day deal that needed a third party (Hawthorn) to unlock the trade. Pick 18 was viewed as Sydney\u2019s way to also secure Neyland at the draft, considering that selection would help the Swans match a Giants bid at Pick 2 or 3.<\/p>\n

The Swans held Picks 11 and 29 before the trade period. They enter Monday\u2019s draft with Picks 18 and 28 as a result of the three-way Smith trade. <\/p>\n

Neyland is still tipped to attract a first-round bid, but where it would come if the Giants prioritised Yerbury \u2013 and the Swans didn\u2019t match \u2013 remains unclear.<\/p>\n

Essendon (Pick 6) has been widely expected to bid on multiple Suns academy players if still on the board, but whether it would bid on Neyland if available remains unclear.<\/p>\n

The Swans are set to welcome in another academy graduate on Monday night in 187cm ruck Maddie Quinn, who could attract a bid as early as Brisbane (Pick 11).<\/p>\n

Adelaide has been strongly considering selecting Oakleigh Chargers star Chloe Bown at Pick 4, should the Giants overlook her.<\/p>\n

Although rival clubs remain wary of the Crows\u2019 interest in SA local Imogen Trengove and WA defender Evie Cowcher, who\u2019ve both also been linked to Collingwood at the next selection. The Pies would almost certainly select Bown if she slipped through, while they\u2019ve also shown interest in both Trengove and Cowcher.<\/p>\n

GWV Rebels on-baller Maggie Johnstone has received a last-minute invite to draft night, with Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs all linked to her. Johnstone, Chloe Baker-West, Priya Bowering, Jordyn Allen and Sophie Eaton are all being tipped to be drafted in the first round.<\/p>\n
