CONTINUOUSLY striving to do the right thing and make a positive difference has seen Northern New South Wales\u2019 Participation Lead Matt Crawley honoured during the AFL\u2019s 2025 \u2018Speccy Awards\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u2018Speccy\u00a0Awards\u2019 are the AFL\u2019s Recognition and Reward program that acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of AFL team members through a variety of rewards,\u00a0experiences\u00a0and awards.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Team members are nominated for many of these awards by their peers, with several awards dedicated to those who\u00a0epitomise the AFL\u2019s values:\u00a0Play to Win,\u00a0Play\u00a0as one Team, Play with Passion, and Play Fair.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a values-led organisation,\u00a0the AFL\u00a0values play a pivotal role in bringing to life the culture\u00a0of the\u00a0AFL. They guide how\u00a0team members\u00a0work and play each day \u2013\u00a0the\u00a0decisions, actions and interactions and\u00a0are\u00a0embedded in everything\u00a0the AFL does.\u00a0<\/p>\n

More than 650 nominations were received across all four values awards, with Crawley bestowed with the Play Fair Award, which honours team members who strive to do the right thing and make a positive difference \u2013 championing diversity, inclusion and an equitable playing field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Head of AFL NSW\/ACT Andrew Varasdi said thisrecognition for Crawls is a win for all in the AFL NSW\/ACT team.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeing one of our own in Matthew Crawley recognised at the AFL\u2019s \u2018Speccy Awards\u2019 is a moment of immense pride for AFL NSW\/ACT,\u201d Varasdi said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis honour for Crawls is richly deserved. He embodies the value of Play Fair, and this award reflects his outstanding contribution to the AFL and his commitment,\u00a0dedication\u00a0and impact in his community.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAwards like this highlight individual excellence, but they are made possible by strong teams. Crawls\u2019 recognition is representative of the talent and teamwork seen across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, and the collective values and ambition that continues to drive forward our efforts in the state and territory.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Crawley has worked for the AFL for almost 15 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As part of his\u00a0position, Crawley\u00a0serves a community-facing role, delivering fun, skills-based sessions in schools and clubs, running NAB AFL Auskick and NAB AFL Superkick programs, supporting community events and game days and championing inclusion, working on\u00a0programs that support multicultural communities, girls in sport, Indigenous programs, and kids of all abilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u2019s\u00a0known for being a calm and open communicator and listener that consistently\u00a0seeks\u00a0to understand and leads with fairness and respect.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Crawley said he was grateful\u00a0to\u00a0receive\u00a0the\u00a0award.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to admit I was genuinely surprised when it was announced yet incredibly humbled,\u201dCrawley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be nominated by your peers as somebody who they see as a team member that exhibits this important AFL value and then to be recognised in front of the entire team for it was a very proud moment in my career.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

AFL NSW\/ACT and the wider Australian Rules Football community in NSW congratulates Crawls on receiving the Play Fair \u2018Speccy Award\u2019.<\/p>\n
