Algarve previously hosted F1 on two occasions, in the COVID-affected 2020 and 2021 campaigns. Both races were won by Mercedes<\/a>\u2019 Lewis Hamilton<\/a> \u2013 with team-mate Valtteri Bottas<\/a> and Red Bull\u2019s Max Verstappen<\/a> making up the podium, but not every time in that order.<\/p>\n The Portuguese Grand Prix is a classic fixture on the F1 calendar; this will be its 19th and 20th races, 13 of which took place at Estoril, near Lisbon, from 1984 to 1996.<\/p>\n Jacques Villeneuve, Williams FW18 Renault<\/p>\n Three earlier races took place from 1958 to 1960 \u2013 two of them on a street track in Porto, one of them at Lisbon\u2019s treacherous Monsanto Park Circuit.<\/p>\n F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to see Portimao return to the Formula 1 calendar and for the sport to continue to ignite the passion of our incredible Portuguese fanbase.<\/p>\n “The circuit delivers on-track excitement from the first corner to the chequered flag, and its energy lifts fans out of their seats.
