Sydney has appointed former player Colin O’Riordan as its new AFLW senior coach following Scott Gowans’ departure.<\/p>\n

O’Riordan moves into the top job after serving as an assistant, as well as holding a position with the Swans Academy, since retiring as a player in 2022.<\/p>\n

The Irishman has quickly risen through the ranks at the red and white to emerge as a highly-rated figure internally, with the Swans appointing O’Riordan to succeed Gowans following the club’s disappointing 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter an extensive and thorough recruitment process we feel that Colin has all the attributes to be a successful AFLW Senior Coach, and was the standout choice,\u201d Swans AFLW football boss Kate Mahony said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past couple of years, he has shown exemplary leadership in his various coaching roles at the club, with his integrity a hallmark of his character. Colin is a well-respected member of the club, and I look forward to seeing what he will bring to the program.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to officially welcome Colin and his fianc\u00e9e Louise into the Swans AFLW family.\u201d<\/p>\n

O’Riordan first joined the Swans in 2015 following a bright career in Gaelic football and hurling.<\/p>\n

He would make his AFL<\/a> debut in 2018 against North Melbourne and would feature at the level 33 more times, with his final appearance coming in 2022.<\/p>\n

Sydney’s AFLW side failed to reach finals in 2025, falling short of a top eight finish on percentage after a Round 12 loss to Essendon that saw the Swans manage just 11 points.\u00a0<\/p>\n
