The Chargers improved to an overall record of 3-7 while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 5-3.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tish-blackwood\/11348\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11348\" target=\"_blank\">Tish Blackwood<\/a> had a impressive game for Southern, in which she recorded the first double-double of her career with a career-best of 23 points and a team-best of 10 rebounds. She was 11-for-13 from the floor, had a team-best and career-best of four steals and was 100% from the free-throw line.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/jada-williams\/11353\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11353\" target=\"_blank\">Jada Williams<\/a> had 12 points, as she was 6-for-8 from the floor and grabbed four boards. <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/rheyna-steinauer\/10577\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10577\" target=\"_blank\">Rheyna Steinauer<\/a> had 11 points with six boards and two assists. <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/hope-fox\/10572\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10572\" target=\"_blank\">Hope Fox<\/a> had nine points, as she was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, had a team-best of four assists, two steals and a block. <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/taeya-steinauer\/11352\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11352\" target=\"_blank\">Taeya Steinauer<\/a> had six points and a team-best of four assists, while <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/iyanna-cotten\/11351\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11351\" target=\"_blank\">Iyanna Cotten<\/a> had three assists against the Chargers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the first quarter, <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/jada-williams\/11353\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11353\" target=\"_blank\">Jada Williams<\/a> got the scoring started for the Owls, with an assist from <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/rheyna-steinauer\/10577\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10577\" target=\"_blank\">Rheyna Steinauer<\/a>. It was a defensive battle between both teams; however,\u00a0Steinauer and Williams continued to put points on the board, to take a 9-5 lead. The Chargers came back to tie the score at 11-11, <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tish-blackwood\/11348\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11348\" target=\"_blank\">Tish Blackwood<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/arianna-gerkin\/10580\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10580\" target=\"_blank\">Arianna Gerkin<\/a> helped Southern take back a four-point lead heading into the second.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>In the second quarter, early on, Southern continued to have the lead, with made baskets from <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/hope-fox\/10572\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10572\" target=\"_blank\">Hope Fox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/taeya-steinauer\/11352\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11352\" target=\"_blank\">Taeya Steinauer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tish-blackwood\/11348\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11348\" target=\"_blank\">Tish Blackwood<\/a>. Dominican began to find their momentum as they tied the score before taking the lead back. The Chargers extended their advantage to seven before <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tish-blackwood\/11348\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11348\" target=\"_blank\">Tish Blackwood<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/jada-williams\/11353\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11353\" target=\"_blank\">Jada Williams<\/a> cut the lead to five points. Dominican headed into halftime, up 36-31 over Southern Connecticut.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>In the third quarter, the Owls looked to make a comeback as <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/rheyna-steinauer\/10577\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10577\" target=\"_blank\">Rheyna Steinauer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/jada-williams\/11353\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11353\" target=\"_blank\">Jada Williams<\/a> scored made layups, to cut the lead to 40-35. Dominican kept making shots to extend their lead yet again; however, <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tish-blackwood\/11348\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11348\" target=\"_blank\">Tish Blackwood<\/a> dominated the floor for Southern Connecticut. Blackwood scored six points in a row for the Owls to take the lead back, 44-43. The Chargers put points back on the board from the free-throw line as they stayed in control. <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/maya-henry\/10574\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10574\" target=\"_blank\">Maya Henry<\/a> and Fox made tough jumpers in the paint, to bring the Owls back within five points of Dominican.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>In the fourth quarter, <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tish-blackwood\/11348\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11348\" target=\"_blank\">Tish Blackwood<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/hope-fox\/10572\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10572\" target=\"_blank\">Hope Fox<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/jada-williams\/11353\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11353\" target=\"_blank\">Jada Williams<\/a> helped Southern get within a point of the Chargers&#8217; lead, with six minutes left in the game. However, Dominican didn&#8217;t go away as they made big free throws and shots down the stretch to keep hold of the lead. <a href=\"https:\/\/scsuowls.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/rheyna-steinauer\/10577\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10577\" target=\"_blank\">Rheyna Steinauer<\/a> made back-to-back baskets for the Owls, as they were within three points of Dominican, with 1:15 left. Nonetheless, the Chargers held on to take the 72-67 victory over the Owls.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The Owls will return to action on Saturday, December 20 at 12:00 pm in the Moore Field House in a non-conference matchup against Bridgeport.
