{"id":353198,"date":"2025-12-17T05:04:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T05:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/353198\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T05:04:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T05:04:10","slug":"christian-horner-in-talks-to-buy-stake-in-alpine-f1-team-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/353198\/","title":{"rendered":"Christian Horner in talks to buy stake in Alpine F1 team &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Red Bull CEO and team boss Christian Horner is reportedly in talks to buy a stake in Alpine, a move that would see him return to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> in some capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Horner was fired by Red Bull in July, ending a 20-year association with the team as its de facto leader following a bitter power battle with Red Bull\u2019s parent company.<\/p>\n<p>Placed on gardening leave until April 2026, Horner has been rumoured to have spoken with multiple teams up and down the grid as he plots his return to the sport.<\/p>\n<p>But the Briton has specific requirements for a role within a team, favouring some control over an operation over reporting to a CEO, something he has yet to find.<\/p>\n<p>Horner had been in discussions to join Aston Martin as CEO, but this fell through, with former colleague Adrian Newey assuming the role of Team Principal in April.<\/p>\n<p>However, Dutch publication De Telegraaf has reported that Horner could be on the verge of an F1 return by buying a controlling stake in the beleaguered Alpine team.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Alpine-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"Alpine endured a torrid 2025 on track\" class=\"wp-image-233328\"  \/>Alpine endured a torrid 2025 on track<\/p>\n<p>Horner to take a chance on beleaguered Alpine?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/results\/2025\/team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alpine finished bottom of the Constructors\u2019 Championship<\/a> in a nadir for the Enstone-based team in its 44-year history under its many identities. <\/p>\n<p>2025 also marked the end of Renault engines in F1, as the Viry-Chatillon facility in France has now shut down, the team moving to Mercedes power for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to become a Mercedes customer has fuelled speculation that Renault is looking to sell the team, with the De Telegraaf report adding fuel to the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Renault Group remains the majority shareholder in the team, with a 24 per cent stake sold to American consortium Otro Capital, allowing celebrities to buy into the team.<\/p>\n<p>The report claims that Horner is eying up a bid for a majority stake with unknown investors, as Otro Capital seeks to sell its stock.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore is a good friend of Horner, a factor not lost on Alpine\u2019s Managing Director Steve Nielsen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/2025\/10\/03\/christian-horner-has-rung-up-every-team-owner-amid-possible-f1-return-claims-aston-martin-boss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Speaking back in October,<\/a> Nielsen refused to rule out the possibility that Horner could end up involved in the Anglo-French marque.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as I know, no,\u201d Nielsen said when asked if a move could happen.\u201cFlavio and Christian are old friends. That\u2019s no secret. What they\u2019ve talked about, I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything I see and everything I know, there\u2019s no truth in Christian coming to Alpine. That doesn\u2019t mean it won\u2019t happen.
