{"id":356597,"date":"2025-12-18T18:32:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T18:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/356597\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T18:32:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T18:32:07","slug":"austal-defence-australia-awarded-lcm-design-and-build-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/356597\/","title":{"rendered":"Austal Defence Australia awarded LCM Design and Build Contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Austal announced that it has been awarded a $1.029 billion Design and Build Contract for Landing Craft Medium (LCM) under the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) signed with the Commonwealth of Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Austal press release<\/p>\n<p>The LCM Design and Build Tasking Statement Contract appoints Austal subsidiary, Austal Defence Shipbuilding Australia Pty Ltd (Austal Defence Australia), to complete the detailed design and build 18 Landing Craft Medium (LCM) vessels at Austal\u2019s Henderson, Western Australia, shipyard. Construction of the first LCM is scheduled to commence in 2026 with the 18th and final vessel scheduled for delivery in 2032.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The LCM, being built for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Australian Army<\/a>, will be manufactured in steel and capable of projecting loads up to 80 tonnes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Austal Limited CEO Paddy Gregg said the first design and build contract <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navalnews.com\/naval-news\/2025\/08\/austal-and-australia-sign-strategic-shipbuilding-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">awarded under the SSA<\/a> was a significant milestone for Austal Defence Australia, as the Commonwealth\u2019s Strategic Shipbuilder in Western Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Landing Craft Medium design and build contract awarded to Austal Defence Australia is\u00a0the first vessel construction program in the Government\u2019s commitment to delivering continuous\u00a0naval shipbuilding at Henderson, Western Australia, enlivening decades of opportunity for\u00a0individuals and businesses to engage, collaborate and invest in defence programs.
