As expected, the cohosts of The View<\/a> reacted to Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s primetime address as their first order of business on Thursday\u2019s (December 18) new show, and all five panelists \u2014 Whoopi Goldberg<\/a>, Sara Haines<\/a>, Joy Behar<\/a>, Sunny Hostin<\/a>, and Alyssa Farah Griffin<\/a> \u2014 picked apart the speech for various reasons.<\/p>\n

First, Goldberg was miffed that he continued to lay blame on his predecessors Joe Biden<\/a> and Barack Obama<\/a> for any problems the country is facing under his leadership term.<\/p>\n

After reviewing footage of Trump saying he \u201cinherited a mess\u201d when taking office for his second term and claiming \u201cwages are up, prices our down,\u201d she was left speechless.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho is he talking to?\u201d Goldberg asked, rhetorically, before continuing. \u201cYou know what? I\u2019m gonna tell you\u2026 he always likes to say people have \u2018Trump Derangement [Syndrome], but I feel like he\u2019s got Obama and Biden Derangement.\u201d The cohost and moderator then added, \u201cYou can\u2019t keep going to that well. That well is dry. This is on you. You did this. This is what you put together. It\u2019s not them, it\u2019s nobody but you. It\u2019s you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haines then jumped in to criticize the timing of Trump\u2019s speech, saying, \u201cI can say with a lot of confidence that people did not want the finale of Survivor<\/a> interrupted [for him] to double down on a real survival experiment right now.\u201d She then criticized Trump for naming immigrants that he dubbed \u201ccriminals\u201d as the country\u2019s biggest problem when, \u201cHe had started with, \u2018We\u2019re doing violent criminals.\u2019 Then, simultaneously, he did pardon violent criminals from January 6. He also pardoned the Silk Road Creator, who was a criminal, and the former president of Honduras, who was a drug kingpin. So you cannot focus on actual crime, and [say] \u2018We\u2019re a nation of laws,\u2019 and then just let the real criminals go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hostin then explained that, while watching Trump\u2019s speech, she consulted the AI service ChatGPT in real time to find out the truth of his statements, but added, \u201cHe lied so many times that I actually couldn\u2019t catch up.\u201d She then went on to read out disputes of Trump\u2019s claims about bringing prescription drug prices down by more than 100 percent, that grocery prices were falling, that gas prices were down across the country, and that crime was at a record high under Biden\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sort of felt sorry for him, in a way,\u201d Behar then said, adding a musical note, \u201cIt\u2019s like I want to sing a Christmas song \u2018The Epstein Files Are Coming,\u2019 just to cheer him up a little.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin offered her two cents to say that she wasn\u2019t surprised that Trump\u2019s address was just a \u201chighlight reel\u201d and said she believes the speech was a signal that, despite Trump\u2019s claim that the \u201caffordability crisis is a hoax,\u201d others in his administration see it differently. \u201cThey don\u2019t even believe that. They knew going into the holidays, every American is looking at their pocketbook. They\u2019re looking at the prices in the grocery store, and they know there is an affordability crisis.\u201d She also panned Trump for showing \u201ca lack of compassion\u201d over the financial hardships people are experiencing right now and said Trump undermined his own wins on border security by falsely inflating the numbers of migrants at the border.<\/p>\n

Goldberg then pointed out that he threw Chief of Staff Susie Wiles \u201cunder the bus\u201d by suggesting the speech was her idea, adding, \u201cI said, \u2018Is she the devil?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike they say, if he\u2019s moving his lips, he\u2019s lying,\u201d Behar said to close out the panelist\u2019s reaction segment.<\/p>\n
