{"id":35675,"date":"2025-07-31T19:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T19:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/35675\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T19:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T19:52:09","slug":"ogier-considering-wrc-2025-title-push-despite-partial-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/35675\/","title":{"rendered":"Ogier considering WRC 2025 title push despite partial campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/sebastien-ogier\/829462\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sebastien Ogier<\/a> says he would be interested in a World Rally Championship title bid and will consider doing more events if his impressive partial campaign continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The eight-time world champion has enjoyed a stellar season to date having recorded three wins (Monte Carlo, Portugal, Sardinia) and two runner-up finishes (Canary Islands, Greece) from the five rallies he has contested thus far.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite missing three events, Ogier sits third in the championship, 21 points behind championship leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/ott-tanak\/829695\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ott Tanak<\/a> and has averaged a stunning 28 points per round.\u00a0Ogier\u2019s margin to the championship leader is seven points less than it was last year at this point in the season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Ogier maintains that his priorities are to help Toyota rather than bid for a ninth world title, his success this year means he is not yet ruling out the prospect of a championship fight if his form continues.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ogier\u2019s partial 2024 campaign extended to 10 rounds last year when Toyota asked the Frenchman to assist the manufacturer\u2019s championship hopes, which ultimately led to the Japanese car maker winning an eighth constructors\u2019 crown.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that I am closer than I would think [to the championship lead] missing three rallies. I know that my chance of winning it, missing some rallies, is very small.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything has to run perfectly the whole year, and it has been the case so far and after five rallies a 28-point average has been amazing. If we can carry on at this level, we could have a chance to fight for it, but it won\u2019t be easy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will stay with a cool\u00a0head, but I will try my best and what I can say if we are very close and if we manage to get closer I can\u2019t say I would not be interested to fight for it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we manage to keep such a strong points scoring every weekend, yes we would consider doing more events towards the end of the year.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ogier is once again expected to feature at the sharp end in Finland this weekend after sitting out Rally Estonia, which was claimed by Toyota Rally1 debutant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/oliver-solberg\/867807\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Oliver Solberg<\/a> two weeks ago.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman says the Toyota team has been exploring different set-up directions\u00a0following Solberg\u2019s domination in Estonia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sebastien-ogier-vincent-landai.jpg\" alt=\"S\u00e9bastien Ogier, Vincent Landais, Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Toyota GR Yaris Rally1\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">S\u00e9bastien Ogier, Vincent Landais, Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Toyota GR Yaris Rally1<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Red Bull Content Pool<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it is no surprise that the whole team is trying to explore a bit the things that Oliver has done in Estonia, because he had a quite impressive performance. From one driver to another, we are not always wanting the same thing,\u201d Ogier added.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI explored it in the test and it felt good, but here I couldn\u2019t really get the feeling anymore [in Thursday\u2019s shakedown].
