<\/a><\/p>\nGeelong president Grant McCabe has confirmed the extension of two-time premiership coach Chris Scott<\/a>, locking him away until the end of 2029.<\/p>\n At Thursday’s AGM, McCabe took the opportunity to reveal the news, saying the club is “extremely pleased”.<\/p>\n “He’s been a real stalwart of the game and one of the best in the business,” McCabe said.<\/p>\n “We have secured his services until the end of 2029, which we’re extremely pleased about.”<\/p>\n Despite a grand final appearance, the Geelong president acknowledged the “significant challenges behind the scenes”, which included the ongoing incidents regarding Bailey Smith<\/a> and a fine of $77,500 from the AFL relating to third-party payments.<\/a><\/p>\n “I want to acknowledge the considerable positives during the year have come despite some significant challenges behind the scenes,” McCabe continued.<\/p>\n “I’m really proud with how our club has worked through these issues and stayed focused on the job across the administration, the football department and our playing groups.<\/p>\n “Our club is in the enviable position of enjoying of what most people would regard as a period of sustained success.<\/p>\n “As somebody said to me recently, you’ve been on Broadway for 20 years, and we’re all proud of that.<\/p>\n “We enter 2026 committed and able to provide our athletes with the best possible environments and resources to succeed, now and into the future.”<\/p>\n Scott joined the Cats following a successful playing career at Brisbane, where he won two premierships under Leigh Matthews and claimed a Rising Star (1994) and Merrett-Murray Medal (1998).<\/p>\n Assuming the responsibility from Mark Thompson, the 49-year-old won a premiership in his first season as coach, and has since established himself as a revelation among his fraternity.<\/p>\n An incredible record that has witnessed Geelong miss two finals campaigns from 15 seasons, making four grand finals and winning two of them.<\/p>\n Scott holds an impressive 68.47 per cent win rate across 360 matches.<\/p>\n He was also honoured with coaching the VIC team in the upcoming State of Origin clash against WA in February at Optus Stadium.<\/p>\n
