The GolfWA Board has officially appointed Arron Minchin as its next Chief Executive, effective 1 January 2026. Minchin, an internal candidate who currently serves as the organisation\u2019s Government Relations Manager, will succeed long-serving leader Gary Thomas.<\/p>\n

The appointment follows an extensive recruitment process that saw over 60 high-quality candidates apply from across the country. The Board\u2019s decision highlights a strategic focus on continuity and long-term sustainability for golf in Western Australia.<\/p>\n

A Smooth Transition of Leadership<\/p>\n

Outgoing Chief Executive Gary Thomas announced his decision to step down earlier this year after a transformative 15-year tenure. Thomas first joined the WA Golf Association (WAGA) as a Junior Development Officer and eventually returned as CEO in November 2010. Under his leadership, golf in the state has reached record participation and membership levels.<\/p>\n

Minchin will begin his role following a handover period with Thomas, who will officially conclude his duties at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n

Extensive Experience and Strategic Vision<\/p>\n

Minchin brings more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning the business, government, and sporting sectors. His professional background includes:<\/p>\n

Government Relations Manager at GolfWA: Working closely with Golf Australia and state clubs to advocate for environmental, economic, and community benefits.
\nDirector of Community Services at the City of Karratha: Leading local government initiatives for over four years.
\nSenior Leadership Roles in State Government: Serving as Director of Industry Development and Participation at the Department of Sport and Recreation.
\nPrivate Sector Experience: Holding high-level positions at BHP and BCI Minerals.<\/p>\n

Minchin is also a passionate golfer of 30 years, having been a member of six different country golf clubs across Western Australia.<\/p>\n
