\u201cWe stand with their families and the Jewish Australian community in this time of grief.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll Australians stand together against antisemitism and hatred.\u201d<\/p>\n
The chief rabbi to the UK and to the Commonwealth, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, was also at the service having travelled from London to Sydney to offer his support to those affected by Sunday\u2019s terror attack, where 15 people were killed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came to Sydney to offer some encouragement to a community in mourning,\u201d he said before attending the Sabbath service.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead, they have taught me what courage truly looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sir Ephraim landed in Sydney on Thursday and will join leaders of Australia\u2019s Jewish community in the first Shabbat or Jewish sabbath since the deadly terror attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere there might have been despair, I\u2019ve found resolve. Where there might have been hatred, I\u2019ve found hope,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sir Ephraim said despite the targeted attack at Bondi, the Jewish community had adopted a unique resolve.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a community asking, \u2018why us?\u2019 This is a community asking, \u2018what now?\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd their answer has been extraordinary: this Hanukah, they are turning the darkness of their grief into a light that illuminates the whole world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chief of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, Michele Goldman, said Friday\u2019s Shabbat \u2013 a traditional day of rest \u2013 \u201cwill be unlike any other\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are entering the first shabbat since this unspeakable tragedy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAcross our community, Jewish families will gather around tables with too many empty seats.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will feel the weight of loss deeply, and we will grieve together in quiet reflection.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis shabbat is a time for mourning as well as for strength. We will honour those who have been taken from us and draw comfort from the solidarity of our community and the broader Australian public.\u201d<\/p>\n
Australia\u2019s most famous beach was flooded with hundreds of surfers and beachgoers on Friday, all paying tribute to those killed.<\/p>\n
