Long before there was The Match, Golf Channel Games<\/a>, and the various other spin-offs of lucrative exhibitions during the quiet offseason, there was Shell\u2019s Wonderful World of Golf.<\/p>\n The iconic television series, featuring a pair of the greatest players in a showdown almost always at one of the most revered golf courses in the world, was hugely popular with fans for decades, starting in 1962 before eventually being canned in 2003.\u00a0<\/p>\n These matches, packaged into hour-long episodes, nowadays provide us with a warm dose of nostalgia via the medium of YouTube. Classic contests include Gene Littler battling Ben Hogan at Pine Valley<\/a> during the show\u2019s inaugural year, and Seve Ballesteros taking on Paul Azinger in a fierce contest around the Old Course in St Andrews in 1995.\u00a0<\/p>\n Even after a lengthy hiatus from 1970, the format returned with a bang when superstars Nick Faldo and Greg Norman went toe-to-toe at Sunningdale\u2019s Old Course in 1994.<\/p>\n And now, it seems, the PGA Tour is working to revive the show once more.\u00a0<\/p>\n As reported by the Sports Business Journal<\/a>, the bosses at Ponte Vedra HQ filed a trademark for \u2018Wonderful World of Golf\u2019 earlier this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
