\n Rising star Lawson Humphries is among the latest group of players selected for the AFL Origin match\n <\/p>\n
Lawson Humphries is the latest Cat to be bestowed the honour of representing his state, with the young star named in Western Australia’s squad for the 2026 AFL Origin match.<\/p>\n
A product out of the Wickham Wolves and Swan Districts, Humphries grew up in Western Australia before being selected by Geelong with the penultimate pick in the 2023 AFL Draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n
His ascension in the game and with the Cats has been incredible, spending the first half of the 2024 season in Geelong’s VFL team, before earning a chance at the top level midway through the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
From there he has developed into a vital part of Geelong’s backline, playing 36 of the last 37 games at AFL level and providing plenty of composure off half back, already well renowned for his skill by foot and elite decision making.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The news also follows last week’s announcement that Humphries had put pen to paper, signing on with the Cats until at least the end of the 2028 AFL season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Humphries becomes the first Geelong player to be selected in the Western Australia squad, set to feature alongside the likes of Patrick Cripps, Chad Warner and Luke Jackson.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He will square off against a number of his Cats teammates however, with Patrick Dangerfield also announced in Victoria’s squad today alongside Jeremy Cameron, Max Holmes and Tom Stewart.\u00a0<\/p>\n
