{"id":360123,"date":"2025-12-20T09:07:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T09:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/360123\/"},"modified":"2025-12-20T09:07:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T09:07:07","slug":"game-notes-canucks-at-bruins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/360123\/","title":{"rendered":"Game Notes: Canucks at Bruins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAST GAME PLAYED \u2013 DEC. 19\/25: VAN 4 at NYI 1<\/p>\n<p>David K\u00e4mpf opened the scoring just before the nine-minute-mark of the first\u2026Jake DeBrusk had the lone assist\u2026Kiefer Sherwood doubled the lead 1:38 later\u2026Evander Kane and Marcus Pettersson had the assists\u2026Sherwood scored his second of the night on the powerplay with 4:13 remaining in the first\u2026Filip Hronek and Tom Wilander were awarded the helpers\u2026Anders Lee got the Islanders on the board with 5:05 left in the third\u2026Sherwood completed his hat-trick with an empty-netter with 1:21 remaining in regulation\u2026Hronek had the lone helper\u2026Kane and Linus Karlsson had four shots each\u2026Liam \u00d6hgren had three hits\u2026Brock Boeser and Marcus Pettersson each blocked three shots\u2026Thatcher Demko made 23 saves.<\/p>\n<p>LAST 5 \u2013 vs BOSTON<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 14\/24: VAN 1 vs BOS 5<br \/>\nNov. 16\/24: VAN 2 at BOS 0<br \/>\nFeb. 24\/24: VAN 3 vs BOS 2 (OT)<br \/>\nFeb. 8\/24: VAN 0 at BOS 4<br \/>\nFeb. 25\/23: VAN 1 vs BOS 3<\/p>\n<p>ON THIS DATE<\/p>\n<p>The Canucks have played 30 times on December 20 in the franchise\u2019s history, holding a record of 10-14-4-2.<\/p>\n<p>This includes a 3-8-1-2 record on the road.<br \/>\nVancouver is 5-0-1 in their last six games on December 20 and have won their last two games on this date: 2018 (5-1W vs STL) and 2016 (4-1 W vs WPG).<\/p>\n<p>WELCOME TO THE DEMSHOW<\/p>\n<p>Stopping 23 of 24 shots on Dec. 19\/25 at NYI, Thatcher Demko set a new career-long shutout streak (150:53), the 10th longest in Canucks franchise history.<br \/>\nMaking 23 saves for his first shutout of the season on Dec. 16\/25 at NYR, Thatcher Demko tied Ryan Miller for the fifth most shutouts in Canucks history.<\/p>\n<p>Demko\u2019s shutout was the first by a Canucks goaltender at Madison Square Garden since Kevin Weekes on Oct. 24\/99.<\/p>\n<p>CHIEF KIEF<\/p>\n<p>Scoring three goals on Dec. 19\/25 at NYI, Kiefer Sherwood registered his third hat trick since joining the Canucks in the 2024.25 season, tied with seven other players for the most over that span (as of Dec. 19\/25).  <\/p>\n<p>Sherwood became the second-fastest player to record three hat tricks with the Canucks (112 GP), only behind Alexander Mogilny (37 GP).<\/p>\n<p>EARLY BIRD GETS THE GOAL<\/p>\n<p>Opening the scoring 1:46 into the first period on Dec. 16\/25 at NYR, the Canucks scored inside the first two minutes of a game for the fifth time this season, tied with three other teams for the second-most in the league.<\/p>\n<p>HERE COMES THE BUIUM<\/p>\n<p>With a goal and an assist on Dec. 14\/25 at NJD, Zeev Buium became the first defenceman in franchise history to record multiple points in the first period of his Canucks debut, and the third to record multiple points in his Canucks debut overall.<\/p>\n<p>With an assist on Jake DeBrusk\u2019s goal 61 seconds into the game, Buium became the fastest player to record a point in his Canucks debut since Todd Bertuzzi on Feb. 7\/98.<br \/>\nRecording the game-winning-goal on Dec. 14\/25 at NJD, Buium became the fourth defenceman to score the game-winner in his Canucks debut, and the first overall since Brock Boeser on Mar. 25\/17 at MIN.<\/p>\n<p>JAKE THE SNAKE<\/p>\n<p>Opening the scoring on Dec. 14\/25 at NJD, Jake DeBrusk registered his eighth power play goal of the 2025.26 season, tied for third in the league (now t-5th).<\/p>\n<p>DeBrusk\u2019s 22 power play goals since the start of the 2024.25 season rank t-3rd in the NHL over that span.<\/p>\n<p>NEW KIDS IN TOWN<\/p>\n<p>Marco Rossi, Liam \u00d6hgren, and Zeev Buium were acquired from the Minnesota Wild on Dec. 12\/25.<\/p>\n<p>Rossi, 24, is a native of Feldkirch, Austria, and has appeared in 202 career games, posting 114 points (49-65-114) and 87 penalty minutes. He posted a career-high 60 points (24-36-60) in 82 games in 2024.25 and has 13 points (4-9-13) in 17 games in 2025.26.<br \/>\n\u00d6hgren, 21, is from Stockholm, SWE, and has played in 46 career NHL games (including 18 in 2025.26), recording seven points (3-4-7) and two penalty minutes. In 2024.25 with the Iowa Wild (AHL), he posted 37 points (19-18-37) in 41 games.<br \/>\nBuium, 20, hails from San Diego, CA, and is in his rookie season, having posted 14 points (3-11-14) in 31 games. He made his NHL debut on Apr. 20\/25 in Game 1 of Minnesota\u2019s first round series against the Vegas Golden Knights.<\/p>\n<p>A WILD NIGHT OF FIRSTS<\/p>\n<p>Scoring his first NHL goal on Dec. 6\/25 vs MIN, Tom Willander became the third defenceman from the 2023 draft class to score their first NHL goal.<\/p>\n<p>Adding an assist on Dec. 6\/25, Willander also leads all defencemen from the 2023 draft class in assists (7) and is first for first in points (8).<\/p>\n<p>With two goals and an assist on Dec. 6\/25 vs MIN, Aatu R\u00e4ty recorded the first three-point game of his career.<\/p>\n<p>R\u00e4ty\u2019s first goal on Dec. 6\/25 vs MIN also stood as the game-winning goal, the first GWG of his career.<\/p>\n<p>MOVIN\u2019 ON UP<\/p>\n<p>Scoring Vancouver\u2019s second goal on Nov. 28\/25 at SJS, Elias Pettersson passed Pavel Bure for the seventh-most points in franchise history (479).<br \/>\nRecording an assist on Nov. 26\/25 at ANA, Elias Pettersson tied Pavel Bure for the seventh-most points in franchise history (478).<\/p>\n<p>Pettersson also passed J.T. Miller for the 10th most assists in franchise history.<\/p>\n<p>With the opening goal on Nov. 23\/25 vs CGY, Filip Hronek passed Jaroslav Modry for the ninth-most points by a Czech defenceman in NHL history (250).<br \/>\nScoring two goals on Nov. 17\/25 at FLA, Elias Pettersson passed Stan Smyl for the seventh-most multi-goal games (31) in franchise history.<br \/>\nRecording two points (1-1-2) on Nov. 14\/25 at CAR, Elias Pettersson passed Tony Tanti for eighth on the franchise\u2019s all-time scoring list (472).<\/p>\n<p>With his goal on Nov. 14\/25 vs CAR, Elias Pettersson passed Todd Bertuzzi for 12th on the Canucks all-time goals list (189).<\/p>\n<p>Assisting on two goals on Nov. 11\/25 vs WPG, Elias Pettersson passed J.T. Miller for ninth on the franchise\u2019s all-time multi-assist game list (60).<\/p>\n<p>BROCKSTAR<\/p>\n<p>Opening the scoring on Nov. 28\/25 at SJS, Brock Boeser passed Todd Bertuzzi for 10th in the Canucks all-time scoring list (450).<br \/>\nRecording an assist on Nov. 26\/25 at ANA, Brock Boeser tied Todd Bertuzzi for 10th on the Canucks all-time scoring list (449).<br \/>\nWith his game-winning goal at 14:15 of the third period on Nov. 8\/25 vs CBJ, Brock Boeser passed Tony Tanti and tied Brendan Morrison for the seventh-most game-winning goals in franchise history.<br \/>\nScoring the overtime winner on Nov. 3\/25 at NSH, Brock Boeser tied Tony Tani for the eighth-most game-winning goals in franchise history (29).<br \/>\nRecording an assist on the overtime winner on Oct. 26\/25 vs EDM, Brock Boeser tied Daniel Sedin for the third-most overtime assists (15) in franchise history.<\/p>\n<p>The assist also moved Boeser passed Sami Salo and Alex Edler for fourth on the Canucks all-time overtime points list (18).<\/p>\n<p>MR. MILESTONE<\/p>\n<p>With an assist on Elias Pettersson\u2019s second period tally on Nov. 28\/25 at SJS, Evander Kane reached the 300-assist milestone for his career.<\/p>\n<p>Kane becomes the fifth player from the 2009 draft class to have both 300 career goals and 300 career assists, joining John Tavares, Matt Duchene, Ryan O\u2019Reilly, and Nazem Kadri.<\/p>\n<p>Scoring his first goal as a Canuck on Nov. 3\/25 at NSH, Evander Kane became the 500th different player to score a goal for Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>The Canucks have become the 11th franchise in NHL history to hit the mark, and the
