The future of 13 Rivian R1Ts, expected to be auctioned after the startup that imported them collapsed, is once again uncertain.<\/p>\n

The future of 13 Rivian R1Ts, which were expected to be auctioned after the startup that imported them collapsed, is once again uncertain.<\/p>\n

The future of 13 Rivian R1Ts spotted in a Perth Auction yard is once again uncertain as the auction house confirms they have been returned to the Administrator.<\/p>\n

The auction site had been expected to auction off the 13 Rivian R1Ts<\/a>, however Grays State Operations Manager for Western Australia, Michael Fernandes confirmed to Drive that the vehicles would no longer be auctioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith regards to the sale of the Rivians<\/a>, the vehicles have unfortunately been returned to the liquidator, and we will not be moving forward with the auction of these assets on their behalf,\u201d Fernandes said.<\/p>\n

Despite the left-hand-drive R1Ts potentially being un-registerable for use by private motorists on public roads, the potential sale of these USA-built electric utes attracted significant interest online.<\/p>\n

The business that imported the Rivian R1Ts, MEVCO<\/a>, had aimed to supply Australian mines with the utes, but entered administration in September owing millions.<\/p>\n

The Mining Electric Vehicle Company (MEVCO) was established in 2022. MEVCO initially focused on electrifying Toyota<\/a> models, planning to distribute Toyota HiLux<\/a> and LandCruiser<\/a> utes converted to battery power.<\/p>\n

The Toyota\u2019s were converted to electric power by SEA Electric. However in early 2024 MEVCO shifted focus to instead supply mining companies with Rivian R1Ts.<\/p>\n

However motorists in the market for a, potentially un-registerable, electric ute might still be in luck.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fernandes confirmed to Drive that two of MEVCO\u2019s electric HiLuxs would soon be going up for auction.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the Rivians were special, there are also two fully electric HiLuxes up for grabs, and we know at home here in Perth nothing screams local quite like a HiLux.\u201d Fernandes said.<\/p>\n

The two HiLux vehicles are un-registerable due to not meeting \u201cAustralian Design Rules<\/a>\u201d, according to their listing on Grays website.<\/p>\n

Toyota recently announced it will officially be bringing an electric HiLux to market in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Drive has previously reported<\/a> that the Toyota HiLux BEV (battery electric vehicle) is expected to be priced higher than diesel HiLux vehicles and is marketed towards commercial buyers, such as mining operations.<\/p>\n

In the meantime however, these electric brightly coloured HiLux vehicles remain a relatively unique offering.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNow imagine having a fluoro green HiLux with a full EV power plant! That\u2019s not just special, it\u2019s a unicorn!\u201d Fernandes said.<\/p>\n
