\n Mark Halsall, 59, was cycling from Bootle to Leyland during a 60-mile ride on the morning of September 14, while navigating a turn from Chester Lane on to Marshalls Cross Road.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mark used the cycle path, and as he rode up to Lea Green station, his bike skidded from underneath him.\n<\/p>\n

\n Mark was taken to Whiston Hospital, having crushed the neck of his femur, and he needed a full hip replacement.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI have been a keen cyclist for more than 30 years, and up until September 14 this year, have never been involved in a serious accident,\u201d said Mark.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cOn the morning of 14th I was passing through Lea Green and was navigating the turn from Chester Lane onto Marshalls Cross.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI chose to use the cycle path and just as I rode up to the train station, my bike skidded from underneath me and I slammed down on my right hip.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI was taken to hospital via ambulance, where I was told that I had crushed the neck of my femur and needed a full hip replacement.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n Mark is seeking to warn others of the dangers that the surface poses and is concerned future injuries may occur \u2013 adding he has contacted the council about the issue but has received no response.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe point of my story is to highlight how dangerous these cycle lanes are,\u201d added Mark.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThere is no texture to the surface and with a little surface water, they become a danger to cyclists.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cMy concern is that more injuries to cyclist will occur if no action is taken by the council. I raised a ticket on the St Helens Council portal immediately after my accident, but as of yet not received any response.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n When asked about this, a St Helens Council spokesman said they will investigate how \u201cwhat is hopefully an isolated incident may have occurred\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n A council spokesperson said: \u201cWe were very\u00a0sorry\u00a0to learn of this incident and hope the resident is making a full and swift recovery.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The junction was planned and delivered to enhance safety for both pedestrians and cyclists. We will carry out a full investigation to understand how what is hopefully an isolated incident may have occurred.\n<\/p>\n
